hi, just wondering what phsyx actually is and how it works?
reason i ask is im on the verge of getting a new gfx card, which i think will be the HD5770. as physx is an nvidia thing, im guessing it will be either disabled or not as good on an ati card. so if its something that will be a big thing in the future, i believe i can add an nvidia card and set it up for physx, is it worth it, and if so, how powerful a card would it need to be?

PhysX is a set of algorithms (or something) that governs the physics of objects within game. NV bought the rights to PhysX and therefore yes, it will be disabled with the HD5770. However, if your mobo has an extra 8x PCI-e slot, you can pick up a cheap 9800GT and run PhysX while having ATI as the principle graphics card.

I am not linking how to do it here but there are help articles out there

Personally, I think it's worth it although only a few games use PhysX - Batman is a good example and I was able to play with PhysX set to high with my 9800 (see sig) and still get 60FPS with 1980x/VSync and everything else maxed.

Good luck

i currently have a 9800GTX+ which i can use, but i thought if it wasnt that gpu intense and i could get away with a lesser card like an 8400GS or something then i could have got some money back on the 9800GTX+

ps. pretty sure all of my pci-e slots are 16x

Whats a good Physx card to use with say a 5970, I miss the extra points in Vantage :)
Would a 9600GT cut it?

Also isnt it possible to modify ATI drivers to enable Physx to work

x1 ...
Just done this using 2 x 5870 as main cards and GTX280 as Physx. (yes I know Overkill)
Batman AA is Stunning and it does make a difference to other games i.e. Crysis, Warhead, Dirt 2. Less work for the rendering cards and cpu to do I suppose.

I didn't think Crysis actually used PhysX?? Dirt 2 maybe?

Yeah, I agree Batman was stunning. At the Op, I wouldn't go below a 9800. I chose that for a reason

Try this google search to get it to work.

It has instructions but many sites do too.
