House MD last night taught me what a Psychopath is.

It's a word thrown around quite a lot by society as a "crazy person", but it's actually someone who has no empathy (or emotions)

Lacking in conscience and empathy, they take what they want and do as they please, violating social norms and expectations without guilt or remorse". "What is missing, in other words, are the very qualities that allow a human being to live in social harmony."

Psychopaths are glib and superficially charming, and many psychopaths are excellent mimics of normal human emotion; some psychopaths can blend in, undetected, in a variety of surroundings, including corporate environments.

I thought this could be our wiki article of the day.

Twas a good Ep. Thought the patient was played really well (+ she was quite hot!)

I think there's a few Psychopaths where I work, as there is an unusually large amout of road kill on the roads either side of the site entrance. (Wabbits!)

Heh heh was a jokes episode of House! She was one crazy bee-hatch, although quite hot! If you want to see another TV series take on an emotionless psychopath you should watch Dexter...

If that was your first episode and you learnt that much about psycopaths just wait until you get your master in lupis.

Tee hee hee my sister bought me a T-shirt with this on:

Please do not hotlink images. If you are going to post an image, please save it and then upload it to a hosting website like Photobucket, ImaheShack, TinyPic etc. Thank you.

No i've watched all House episodes before. I'm his greatest fan, and am currently figuring ways of damaging my leg so I can be just like him.

The whole Psychopathy topic interested me!

Who made my post go bye bye?

Anyway I'll say it again, was a very good episode. Does anyone know if that bit about 13 being able to detect her because of an evolutionary defence mechanism is true or exaggeration on the writers part?

I'd argue that Dexter does have some emotions. Or at the very least has a certain sense of justice. The very he clearly loves / cares for his children and Rita - oh and that he is particularly brutal to any child molestors shows this.

That was a really creepy House episode. I thought Beau Garrett played the role well.

Like OP, after the episode I spent an hour researching psychopathy. Genetic psychopathy cannot be treated at all.

Dexter isn't creepy at all because he's a sociopath. We can empathise with the idea of a traumatic event leaving you damaged, even if it isn' t to that extent. Also he's the good guy.

True, but these emotions laid dorment until recently, and both Dexter and the lady in House had their conditions caused by traumatic childhood experiences...

Still, it's only TV so we can't expect 100% true to life accuracy.

Its all perfectly logical

Dont care about other people-----> Do everything for pleasure/profit

If someone is depressed, and because of "empathy" you begin to feel depressed, the following apply
1) you are weak
2) you have a severe mental disorder
3) You are susceptible to influence and emotional manipulation

Also, i think quite a lot of people are pretending to care, a thread on OCUK about someone dying, hundreds of replies about rip and im sorry, its just words really i dont think half of them are even genuine, it seems more like a auto-response or something
