On the road....
Every now and again, my IP 35Pro refuses to boot into windows (which is on an old IDE drive in the machine) yet if I unplug my 320GB SATA drive that has all of my music etc on it, the PC will boot up fine. I then plug the SATA drive back in and re-boot and everything is happy again for sometimes hours, sometimes months....

Also, from time to time the SATA drive(s) - both HD and DVD seem to dissapear from "My Computer", again, unplug them both, reboot, plug them both back in & reboot again and its happy.

I'm guessing its possibly a chipset driver issue? perhaps BIOS? Tbh, I'm stumped...

Any suggestions? This is driving me nuts!

Otherwise, it performs superbly and I'm happy with it!

A friend of mine had a very similar issue with a Asus P5Q Pro and upgrading one of the Intel Chipset drivers fixed it for him. I can't remember the exact driver we needed to install, but it did fix the issue.

His symptoms were that the SATA DVD would just disappear from My Computer, then his 2nd HDD, also SATA would disappear, causing his RAID 1 array to fail. Had me running around in circles for ages trying to find the cure. Even did a reformat, but nothing fixed it until the driver swap. I think he still has the odd issue with the 2nd HDD, but I have a feeling that's more an issue with the board than the drivers.

Took a lot of patience and time spent Googling to discover this.

FWIW I have an Abit IP35 Pro and currently running this driver set with zero issues... http://downloadcenter.intel.com/Detail_Desc.aspx?agr=Y&ProdId=816&DwnldID=16023&lang=eng

I don't use IDE, but I reckon the driver change is worth a shot.

I have this motherboard in my current system and once in a blue moon my sata dvdrw dissapears from the device list until i reboot the system, i think it is some kind of flaw on the bios which Abit have never addressed.

Have you tried updating the Intel Chipset drivers?

I had the problem in vista x86 and now the problem is still there with windows 7 x64, i have the latest bios and i have tried driver updates for the chipset and even a firmware update to the dvdrw drive itself and the problem still randomly happens. When it first started happening i put it down to a faulty sata cable which i replaced along with the sata power cable but days later the problem returned. Its not a huge issue but its a little annoying when it happens.

Would be interesting to know why this happens and how it could be fixed.

I've downloaded these and installed them, fingers crossed. Cheers! :)

could it not be an aging PSU?, i would first look into drivers too. perhaps reinstall all MB related drivers?

Don't think so mate, I've tried a 400W, 500W and 350W (which was brand new) all of which seem fine in my other machines....

Could somebody point me in the direction of a decent late BIOS for this board please? There seems to be loads out there....

No worries, let me know how it goes. As for bios version, I am running version 17, dated 5/26/08 at least according to Everest and it's been great. Very stable and allows decent overclocks too.

Top one here...
