Hi,

Trying to quieten down my system so I am finding different ways to do this. One method I have seen done is cutting the metal fan cover out of the case so the fan has a direct airflow. Like the example below. Has anyone had any personal experiences with doing this? I am wondering whether its worth doing, or a little over the top.

Interesting, never heard of or thought of doing this, i think under my desk id end up with cables obstructing them.

They could block a lot of the airflow, 60% or so if it's a poor design which would inscrease the temp and thus the fan speed required. Removing it will also decrease noise from turbulence.

Ahh I may have a go then with mine. If I don't like it with the hole I suppose I can fit a wire grill via the fans screw holes.

Does anyone know what you use to go round the edge of the metal to make it safe?

I use a dremel or a long thin file.
