I've got a mate who moved to the us a few years back. He wants to get a beta key with play.com but they won't accept his card due to location.
Is there any other way he can do it without the shop taking the payment straight away? Does anyone know of any other shops that offer the beta AND won't take the money right away like play.com do? I would do it for him off my credit card, but because i live in the uk, the spare key i give him might not work in his country.

If all he wanted to do was pre-order, then cancel to get the key. What's to stop him using a fake address, or getting you to do it?
No, mine is 12 letters and 4 numbers.

I just hope there are enough mirrors. Changed my pre-order after finding it cheaper. Oh well, sucks to be the company in Jersey

Only downside to that is that you can't talk about it with anyone else, else you'll find yourself very quickly an ex-member.

It's his Credit card that's stopping him, and i said i would do it if all else fails, but i'm not certain the key would work for him
One of the US retailers is offering Beta keys with all pre-orders. They don't charge until the game is shipped either.
Not sure whether I can mention the name but all he has to do is look on the Battlefield Blog page.

An order cannot be cancelled once the pre-order item or code has been supplied.

It's legal. We are well within our rights to cancel. It's not our fault play.com haven't to put it in their T&C.
After this im sure they will, an IMO rightly so.
However places like fileplanet have forced us down this route with their subscriber only betas. And also many games now do beta and no demo or demo way after release, so its the only way for peeps to try a game early
Play should at very least take the money when you pre order for the privilege of giving out the beta key
