A Hertfordshire recruitment agency boss says she was told she could not request "reliable and hard-working" applicants.

Devonwood Recruitment boss Nicole Mamo said the Jobcentre Plus in Thetford, Norfolk, told her such an advert could be "offensive" to unreliable people.

Plain stupid, real mental PC at work.

It is a pretty meaningless phrase though, is it not?

Whats an unreliable waster going to do? 'Oh I wont apply, I'm lazy'?

It's as meaningless as 'First to see will buy!' in car adverts.

That is ludicrous. Unless the law has changed (with Labour you can never quite be sure it has to be said), Unreliable people are not a protected class within employment law...

I think the jobcentre person is having a joke. There is no way I can imagine the words "Your advert may be offensive to unreliable people" without sarcasm tags.

Lol @ That.

I can imagen somebody saying that to me on the phone, and all I would be able to do is laugh.

Oh England, you legend ;)

I don't think it was against the law. Probably there haven't been enough sexist/racist job adverts recently and someone felt the need to justify their continued employment.

I really dont see the problem with this..

at least is the goon who gets the job turns out to be UNRELIABLE then they can send him packing due to not fitting the advert.

I'm sure there's something I'm missing about the story, maybe a miscommunication or something as I can't quite believe that that is all there is to this, my mind refuses to accept it.

While it may be "offensive to unreliable people" conversely it's not offering them false hope of getting the job so by my reckoning the two issues cancel each other out therefore I'd say it should have been left as it was.

facepalm
