Spotify

I haven't downloaded a song since i started using it :)

It's a great bit of kit

I use it but not a premium version. Considering going to Premium but also been looking at Sky Songs, which is cheaper and you get to keep one album a month (although they only have 4 million songs as opposed to 6 on Spotify).

Use it, but not premium. Although I haven't used it yet, I love the ability to buy a one day premium pass for gatherings etc.

Using Napster here, 8 million songs, the 10 quid for 1 month on spotify gets you three on napster!

Aren't the tracks copy protected on Napster though? Or you can only play them whilst you have an account? That's what it used to be when I used it anyway.

As far as I know if you download a track with Spotify premium it's yours forever?

Oh right, I'm sure I heard the little Spotify man waffling on about that on one of the adverts..
you don't in normal terms download anything, you can make stuff available offline, but you can still only play it from the spotify app be that on your pc or mobile, all this as far as I'm aware, I don't think there's any legitimate way of getting stuff out of spotify, that's the attraction to music companies, the only way to copy something off of spotify is to record it.

How much money are these guys making,
it wasn't a lot but they obviously expect it to work out, estimation from last may here: http://www.trilson.co.uk/?p=54
how is it legal,
because they have contracts with all the record companies whose music they're providing, it's not like they're just buying cd's and making them available.
and why hasn't anyone done it before?
somewhat the nature of an original idea ;)
Spotify tis all I use now.
likewise, I've not migrated my music from my old pc to my NAS because I just have no call to access it from there apart from to put it on memory sticks for use in the car, and even then I could just use spotify on my phone.

I don't think there's any legitimate way of getting stuff out of spotify,

Eh?

You do know you can buy tracks and their yours to keep forever, no DRM protection or rubbish like that. Use them on your iPod or weherever.
