Dragon Age Origins laggy gameplay?

Is anyone else getting laggy gameplay in Dragon Age Origins? I would have thought my setup would have cut through it like butter. I'm playing at Max details, 4xaa 16xaf, vsync on, 1920x1080. It's really annoying in Derrigan market especially. Running 9.11's as the 9.12's gave me flicker.

LFD2 etc all play superbly so i can only assume it's game specific. Any ideas?

weird - using 9.12 with 5770 and no lag slow down ona fresh start.

There are known issues with DA with memory leaks which kick in after a while playing/zoning.

I think I'm using 9.11 as I had issues with one game and the latest drivers. So I only tried DA:O with 9.11 and they fine.

Strange, I tried the latest betas, the issue's still there. I get massive slowdown through the blue sun rays for example. I may have to bite the bullet and reinstall, which folders do I need to back up before I uninstall, saves etc?

You won't be getting any "lag" as dragon age isn't an online game.

This. Define "lag" please? Are your framerates dropping or is it a slow repsonse to mouse clicks?

If the latter then more likely mouse setting related than graphics as I have no issues with my single 5850.

Unfortunately Dragon Age's engine isn't brilliantly coded. What sort of FPS are you getting?

Derrigan market runs a bit badly on most rigs I've read (I had to turn AA down a bit for that area).

But yeah, you might have to live with not perfect performance from this game, unfortunately...

Lag is the only way I can describe it, (I fully understand the term and concept of "lag" as in a poor ping etc online :D) but when i'm running around a level the charcter seems to momentarily "lag", it's obviously a frame rate issue, but not a consistent one.

Thanks for the replies btw, guess i'll just re install, if everyone else has no issues with more modest setups and my other games are ok then I suppose it's the obvious answer.

I have no issue at all (10.1), Crossfire HD4890.

What settings are you using? Have you got the frame Buffer effects box checked, vsync enabled? AA level etc.

i dont have any issues maxed out at 1680-1050, dont get much denerim lag only slow down i find is with environmental effects like walking through thick mist in a dungeon it might go down to like 30 fps (vsynced) but i always seem to get environmental slowdown ie when theres a big explosion in resident evil 5 is the only time it drops from 100 fps+ to like just above 60! i have had 1 crash on dragon age during a loading sequence, just froze so i had to alt tab and close, maybe that was the memory leak someone spoke of because i had been playing for a while.

full setting 1920x1200 but Vsync disabled. My spec is Q9550 @4.1Ghz/4Gb memory. hope this will help

I had a few slowdown issues with my 8800GT at full detail on 1680x1050 (i.e. when I stupidly pick fireball in a big melee & my party in the middle of it!).

Not a flicker on 5850 tho (as expected) and the effects are subtly prettier!

Dan

ps- I LOVE this game! ;)
