Im thinking of bringing a few cigarettes and bottles of booze back to the uk from the far east when I go - not loads but just more than I maybe should! All for me and my mrs! Im flying into gatwick and just wondered what the restrictions are like???? anyone got any experiences?

When we landed back from Egypt we had a couple of boxes of cigs (stuck to the limit which was a box each) we just walked straight through the "nothing to declare" gate. No staff around at all, doubt you'd ever get stopped unless you had crates on trolleys.

But I wouldn't advise it just in case as the fines are quite harsh.

Sound - I think you just hand them over if you bring back more than you should - either that or pay the duty!

limit is something silly like 2 litres of spirits... no point bringing beer back as its cheap anyway.

i dont fly often but the nothing to declare gate has always been desserted for me so maybe its worth a try if your only bringing like double what you should.

just dont go crazy

FFS. People are so lazy.

200 cigarettes; or 100 cigarillos; or 50 cigars; or 250g of tobacco
4 litres of still table wine
16 litres of beer
1 litre of spirits or strong liqueurs over 22 per cent volume; or 2 litres of fortified wine (such as port or sherry), sparkling wine or other alcoholic beverages of less than 22 per cent volume and
£300 worth of all other goods including perfume and souvenirs.

Yes well I was thinking of bringing about 600 fags as opposed to the 200 allowed! and maybe about 4 bottles of Jack! Im going to thai and vietnam - £10 a pack of 200 - my mates just brought 2000 back but flew back into manchester not gatwick! He didnt get checked and is now £500 better off!

aslong as they think its only your your own use you shouldnt have a problem.

if you be ridiculous and they suspect your going to sell them for profit they will just confiscate anything over the limit

Youd have to pay tax on them as its outside the EU. Either that or have them confiscated - youre only allowed a maximum of 200 duty free :(

ive seen different on documentarys about airports ;)

aslong as your not a repeat offender and the person at customs isnt in a bad mood.

**** it then - Im gonna bring back 600 and sell them - use the profit to fund a new case and psu from yours truly :D Everyones a winner !!!! - wish me luck!

Highly recommend you don't do this. It's one thing bringing back too many for personal use but if anyone catches wind that you've sold them you'll be in huge amount of trouble
