Has The F22 Met Its Match ?

F16 still looks sexier.

they are identical..

I think once the German version through which I believe is the Euro fighter

the typhoon is probably our version

something to find out, without wiki :p

You missed the point, which is my anti-euro attitude. It's a Typhoon and that's an end to it.

'Tis ok:p he was right though the Typhoon requires sophisticated electronics just to make the thing fly, without them it would flop, its manouverability is through design, the same design makes it incompetent as a plane therefore requiring a computer to keep it flying. I worked for a company that made the simulator test modules for it for BAE in Lytham and with this came some knowledge as to how this "plane" stayed in the air.

yeah i know they have like one squadron or something already but i'm sure i heard news that was it and they wouldn't be buying/making any more.

That was my initial reaction when reading the thread title.

According to wiki..

On October 28, 2009, President Barack Obama signed a defense bill that kills some costly weapons projects and expands war efforts. The bill terminates production of the F-22 jet fighter program.[66]

An F-22 beater ? I sincerely doubt it. Hell of a good looking aeroplane though, whereas the Raptor looks like it hit every proverbial branch on the way down :D One interesting observation is that the exhausts on the F-22 are low profile and designed to keep both heat and radar signature low, I don't see any such design on the Sukhoi, avionics wise I'd be suprised if it was anywhere near the capability of the Raptor. Modern air combat is won beyond visual range - very much Raptor territory.

Anyway, who cares... I want the model of it ! :D

To illustrate my earlier point about the similarity to the YF-23 Black Widow II

Ok the wings are more F-22 style but the engine inlets and exhaust placement (setting aside the fact the Su uses 'conventional' engines whereas the YF-23's were recessed for greater stealthiness) and the shape of the tailfins and cockpit area is strikingly similar

They do share some common traits, but that because they are trying to achieve the same design goals.

Just have a Type 45 around. Easy.

Erm, what? As a target?

http://www.theregister.co.uk/2009/12/02/type_45_viper_paams_fail/

Sorry, the Type 45 is a truly stupid ship. In WW2, we learned that ships are vulnerable to air power. We had to re-learn this in the Falklands war.

How many more wars will it take?

And as for the Su50, it looks nice... but in this coming age of UAV predominance, it seems a little pointless. May well have the edge over an F35 though in air combat.

Regarding the F35, Yakovlev did do some consultancy work for Lockheed Martin.

The Tu144 also used a different type of Delta wing and canards.

The Mig31 was the first fighter in active service to have a phased array radar.

Also the T50 has relatively small wings unlike the F22 and seems to have a huge centroplan which probably provides a sizeable percentage of the lift too.

Another factor is that unlike Soviet times Russia has far greater access to computer technology and other commercial technologies. In areas they have a technology gap in they could probably get foreign help if required.

Many of their newer fighters like the Su30MKI had avionics from countries like France and Israel.
