Hi,

As most of you are probably aware Virgin Media recently upgraded their email platform to Google, ever since the upgrade went through I have felt like I'm talking to myself - sending out emails to people but not getting any responses.

Has anyone else noticed this since the upgrade?

I have been receiving some newsletters and some spam etc and can even send myself an email fine, but it's kind of strange that suddenly nobody seems to be replying to me.

EDIT: I'm with Blueyonder.

My virgin email has been playing up for a while now.

When I collect my mails with windows mail only a very small proportion of the mails from my virgin account come down. I can view them all via web mail but for some reason the vast majority of them don't arrive on my mail client. Its a bit odd and I cant see any reason.

Same here also dont receive them on my phone any more, even though no settings have changed.

I'm not having email problems.

Kind of a side issue but does Virgin Media have a slimline webmail feature for use on your phone. Like BT (and I'm sure other ISP's) have for their email system?

If you use 2 clients to download (e.g. I use PC + IPod Touch) then you only download to the first - as initially set up it gets marked as "downloaded" and doesn't download to the 2nd.

I found this out as I my iPod Touch automatically downloads the emails when on so I wasn't seeing them on my PC. Rubbish eh! Didn't used to do that.

What you have to do is add "recent:" to the front of your account name on all devices (see Virgin "POP help" on their web site). This then downloads emails to all devices (up to 30 days old - seems to work but decidely odd.

Do you download to more than one device?

Mel

You may have had 'leave a copy of messages on the server after x days' enabled on your email client before. This means you can have it on more than one device, although you won't be able to see that you've sent/replied to an email on the other device. I think IMAP gets around this though if it was an issue.

See Virgin "help" - it specifically says if you want to download to more than one POP client (which it did perfectly well before the change to Google) you have to add this "recent:". I have changed nothing and it downloaded to both devices before the change. Both devices were / are set up to "leave on server".

You have to make this change to your Virgin set up to receive on more than one client now.

How can you use Virgin mail / Outloook Express in IMAP ???? (can you??)

i only ever get emails via the web mail now. I rang them and they told me how to change the settings of the webmail to allow me to get my mail via Outlook Express, problem is tho i have to go into webmail and change the settings everytime i want to view emails via Outlook - i may as well just read them from the webmail if im having to do this !

I had almost 200 emails on the webmail server as non were being redirected to my Outlook account !

Delete and recreate the email account on your email client if you are ex -blueyonder.

My current settings which work fine after the migration:

Username: email alias (without the @blueyonder.co.uk and not the letter/number one **001F2085_3 either)
Password: same as before

Incoming server (IMAP): imap.blueyonder.co.uk
Port: 993
SSL Enabled

Incoming server (POP3): pop3.blueyonder.co.uk
Port: 995
SSL Enabled

Outgoing server: smtp.blueyonder.co.uk
Port: 465
SSL Enabled
Authentication enabled with same username/password as incoming

Above (POP3/Imap) settings work fine on my Thunderbird 3.0 - BY account is around 7 years old.

You should only need to do it once?

I’m downloading to two devices, my iphone picks up mails as well as outlook. So I guess I need to make the mentioned change which I will try later.

What I don’t understand is why some of my mails do still get picked up via outlook, if it was due to this two device issue I would have thought I wouldn’t get any of them as my iphone has already picked them up.

That's what i got - some downloaded. Virgin shouldn't have messed this up!

At least your getting mail via outlook and your phone - i get nothing and that is after callind virgin (twice, soon to be three times) and creating a new account in outlook

Well that was annoying but the recent fix did the trick, wish I'd found out about that sooner. Thanks Mel P for posting that.
