TV - can you get one without anologue?

It may be useless, how ever, to go out of your way to avoid getting a TV with one, to me, seems like you've got a specific purpose for not wanting an analogue tuner.

If you don't use it, what harm is there having one and why would you base your TV purchase around it?

Saves paying TV license maybe.

If a screen doesn't have a tuner built in, then it's not a TV but a monitor.

You also don't pay TV license fees because you've got devices capable of receiving a TV signal, you pay the fees IF you make use of the signals (as in, tune in to and watch them).

I'm not buying a TV. I'm not "going out of my way". I asked a simple question :)

I'm not :)

I'm not :)

Still, there must be a reason why you want a TV without an analogue tuner other than because you won't use it?

Do you think it'd be cheaper?

Or maybe he's just asking purely as a matter of interest, or to settle a discussion?

It amazes why some people can't just answer a question without feeling the need to question the motives first.

As far as I am aware there are two possible answers here. Firstly is just a monitor, though obviously you rarely get monitors in 32"+ sizes as you would a TV.

Secondly I think some manufacturers produce tuner-less displays for use in corporate environments (such as the big screens you see in a Tesco with adverts and stuff on) though I don't know where you'd get hold of them if you wanted one. Advantage being without a tuner there is no (or less) tax payable so the displays can be provided cheaper.

Are there any TVs (plasma or LCD) that don't have an analogue tuner built in?

Seeing as it's just a question and your not looking to but one, then I think you should be able to buy one but I cba to look for one.

I'm sure there are tv's out there that only have a digital tuner, but if it didn't have either analogue or digital then it would be a monitor not a tv.

I don't want a TV.

There is no ulterior motive - I'm just curious if there are "digital only" TVs available in light of the analogue switch off...

Without "analogue" implies one with digital.

However, I didn't actually register that he'd said he wasn't buying.

I've got a raging headache but I don't want to go to sleep only to wake up at 3AM and not be able to get back to sleep again. :D

People aren't always questioning the legitimacy of his motives, sometimes it's much more appropriate to ask that question since there may be a simpler answer or alternative that the person is not aware of. Just trying to help.

I was thinking the opposite today - are there any TVs still available WITHOUT digital in light of the switchover. I have one at home but it's getting on now. Seems almost all flat panel TVs were supplied with digi tuners bar the early ones.

I haven't seen a TV without an analogue tuner - they still have their uses for other devices, not just receiving TV. Some home CCTV systems, cameras, even games consoles use RF modulation (?) to connect to a TV. For the sake of such a low cost addition (presumably cheap to put in a TV nowadays), manufacturers may as well include it to support all possible uses.

The panasonic TX-P54Z1 Tv is only one inch thick and comes with a separate tuner box. So, in theory you could maybe buy a second hand one without a tuner box (maybe it was broken)

Only problem with this tv is the tuner/connection box wirelessly transmits the signal to the TV so without the tuner box you cant plug anything into the tv so it will be useless
