Was browsing a certain best deals in the uk website just and came across one where the purple video games shop are taking in your old xbox 360 arcade plus £41.99 and you get a new elite!
Supposed to be a couple of days special.
Anyone heard or seen such a deal?

no but sounds too good to be true. All the price eroding on the elite makes me wonder if MS have something in the pipeline very close to release.

Said shop's trade ins are usually insulting to say the least.

If I recall rumours are the Elite will cease to exist and the Super Elite will take it's place.

the way they price the HD is insane
rather get an arcade and a HD case for a tenner and get a WD 250gb and spoof it as a Hitachi 250gb and use it with the arcade.

does this work? I thought it was very hard to get alternate hard drives working on the xbox in this way.

are their any instructions for this?

Checked this out today... Arcade = £76 Trade in, then their current deal is £209.99 Elite + 3 Free games, now these 3 free games can be the same game so we choose Mass Effect 2 which gets £30 trade in value x3 so £90 + £76 = £166, leaving £43.99 to pay, so £2 more than you read.

I'm pretty sure that if they were going to they would have done it by now. People have been doing it since the 120gb drive first came out, MS have had plenty of time, and it would be safe to assume that if they had any way of detecting it (or indeed cared that much) then they would have disabled it at the same time they disabled the unofficial Datel memory cards.

It's not like it's the same as the DVD f/w hack (that is solely for piracy), or the JTAG hack that has obvious ramifications for live. Bans for those two mods are expected and understandable, but simply installing a bigger HDD has no security ramifications at all.

I don't think they'll ever ban for unofficial HDD upgrades. The worst they'll do is disable them, but I can't see that happening either TBH.

I've got a jasper arcade, I'd be worried if I went for the swap the elite would be older stock and I may not get a Jasper. Any idea if these are older consoles?
