The Great Levelling?
Twenty years on from the invention of the World Wide Web, Dr Aleks Krotoski looks at how it is reshaping almost every aspect of our lives. Joined by some of the web's biggest names, she investigates whether it has lived up to its early promise. In the first in this four-part series, Aleks charts the extraordinary rise of blogs, Wikipedia and YouTube, and traces an ongoing clash between the freedom the technology offers us, and our innate human desire to control and profit.

Am I the only one that thinks that Tim Berners-Lee did not "invent" the web?

Very little is truly invented out of the blue by one person. In the real worls, invention is incremental, and there's seldom one outstanding point where you can say something came into being. But just as people want someone to blame for a disaster, they want someone to credit for success. Hence "Invention X was created by Y". Berners-Lee's part was critical, but whether it was "the invention of the internet" is certainly open to question.

As for the program, I found it jumped around to much: it felt like an hour-long introduction to a different program that they'll show later.

If it's anything like BBC news technology info, it will be filled with glaring errors and unnecessary prejudice against various aspects of IT.

Interesting point they made at one time during the programme, though was that of competition on the internet. Whilst for a time in certain areas you have competition - once a winner emerges, you're left with one ubiquitous search engine, one auction site, one social networking site, etc.
