Local Gritters

I don’t know where I stand here so that’s why I am asking for advice.
Today I was driving home as usual on a 60 road, slowing down for a corner and junction ahead, going around 30. From around the corner comes a gritter spraying the roads, I braked quite hard not wanting to get my car damaged but flinched as I heard my car get pummelled by grit.
I knew this guy was going too fast as he was almost gone when I look in my mirror.

Long story short, my windscreen now has around 50 tiny chips, also my bonnet has a round 20 which are all quite visible.

What can I do about this? Am I just going to have to fork out for a new windscreen and a bonnet re-spray, or can I claim from someone (council) ?

Thanks guys

i would take photo's and go to your council and see what they say.

these gritters do speed quite a bit where i live.

The thing is, the chips on the windscreen are quite small and I dont think they will come out on camera.
Does anyone have any advice on how to take a picture showing these better? eg lighting, position?

take your windscreen out and take it into your local council office.

or failing that get someone to look at it from the council.

Phone your council.

Using a flash would surely bring out the chips, could also try a glass polish as may come out.

Though I doubt it with glass.

Its going to be hard to get anything out of the Council, its worth a try but don’t expect a result within a few days or week, took me over 2 years to get some money driving over a pothole.

You need a lot of persistence but if you feel you have the right to compensation go for it :) Get in touch with a lawyer, you need to work out if its going to be worth the hassle time and money to get a result

Would you rather they dont grit, you crash and die ?

You just cant win with some people can you?

So a gritter comes around a corner heading away from a junction in a 60 zone and it was speeding? I'm not a usual member of the OCUK investigation team but was it V12 powered with a couple of turbos?

Post up a pic, never heard of this before

I will get some as soon as I can. :)

You dont need to jump in without fully understanding what was said. If the driver was going slower this would have not happened, right?

Sorry, I didnt fully explain. I will provide a google map view.
Here is a link

Here you go. I was going towards the junction along the B3081. The gritter came off the slip road type thing from the A371(turn off labels to see). This is why he probably had the speed.

the flaw is with the councils, they pay gritter drivers on how many tonnes of grit they lay and how many roads they grit hence why they open the sluce gate fully on the back and drive flat out.

Maybe it would be wise to work out that they can grit more roads the faster they go, therefore gritting more roads before it ices over.

Write/ speak to your local council asap. I know a friend who was in a similar situation and managed to get some money out of them towards the repair costs. :)
