Hi all

I have bought some gentle typhoon fan for my CPU to cool it and I was wanting to know what is the best case fan at 120mm to replace them
in a antec p183.

I have looked at the fractal fans but it seems the nf-p12-1300 at the lowest speed is quieter and has better air flow am I right ?, or is there anything even better I am trying to keep under the 15db level as the antec case fans are 17db and 22db but also want to keep 38cfm or above.

Thanks

Th

you could buy a fan controller or just plug them in... i am also going to need some fans soon and i would really like, the most air and not that bothered about the noise to a point,
what is the best ocuk sell? sorry for jumping in on your thread but i though there is no need for a new one when its the same :D

Why not just buy some more gentle typhoon fans and use those around the case. I doubt you will be able to get any fans to run below 15db at 12V so you may need to get yourself a fan controller.

becasue gentle typhoons are only good for heatsink fans not as case fans

the antec case fans seem to run at 1200rpm at 25db at 0.9mm H20 set to low 39 CFM

there is the

Noctua NF-S12B FLX Ultra Quiet 120mm 900 RPM 10.6 dB 0.76 mm H2O 44.6 CFM

has slighty less static preasure or

Noctua NF-P12 Vortex 900 RPM 12.6 dB 1.21 mm H²O 37.3 CFM

has a higher static preasure and better CFM and half the db levels

can not get a real spec on the Akasa AK-FN058

dont know what to go for

I'm getting a black apache fan tomorrow, if you go onto my build log (in my sig) tomorrow I'll do a mini reveiw and give you my impressions :)

Only thing right in advertising specs is size and RPM, rest is BS.

Without caring noise:

1200rpm version is lot more reasonable for quieting purposes and besides already matches standard design ~1600rpm fan when running at full speed.
As sleeve bearing fans they just don't like running in horizontal position.

antec case fasn for the p183 reviewd by silentpc review are

set to Low back fan 17 dBA top fan 22 dBA

Noctua NF-P12 seems to be better but would like the same spec as the antecs case fans set to low but less noise and this seems to be the onyl fan so far that can match it but with lower db

ok been toled by a couple thats its between the

Noctua NF-P12 Vortex

or

Scythe S-FLEX 1200RPM Ultra Quiet 49.0 CFM, 20.1 dB

or

Scythe Kama Flow 1000RPM 38.9 CFM, 15.8 dB

the fans in the antec case spec are (Low setting 39CFM, 25 dBA)

so what should i go for i have been toled the Noctua NF-P12 Vortex is not realy a good case fan more designed for cpu coolers and the scythe s-flex are far better at noise levels

what you think ?

As above...

I read that review in custom pc, most fans can't even do half the cfm they claim.

The sharkoon silent eagle1000 and the scythe gentle typhoon D1225C where top two, the rest were rubbish except for a delta fan(can you hear me?).

The sharkoon silent eagles are very good, ive used the 2000 rpm versions, bit loud at full speed but drop them down to 1000 rpm and theyre pretty quiet, while still providing good airflow.

Is there such as thing as a bad case fan? If a fan is a good heatsink/rad fan then it's probably a very good case fan. Good case fans can be bad heatsink fans due to a low static pressure.

Forget about dB, or dB(A), those figures can't be trusted. In general 120mm fans that run above ~700rpm are audible once installed in a case, that can't be helped. If it isn't audible it's because the blades are crap and don't move any air. Remember that the usually the noise isn't coming from the fan, but from the air been push through fan grills etc. Better fans will push the air more evenly which reduces the noise all the air isn't been forced at high speed through a small area.
With that in mind the best way to get a quiet system is get ~1000-1200rpm fans and use a fan controller(or software) to reduce these to the noise level that you desire.
