Might be a silly question, but is it ok use redex (petrol injector) on my 2000 Celica VVTI? I just want to look after it and keep the injectors clean.

cheers

Oh well, it was only £1.99 and thought i would give it a shot. So it's not going to do any harm anyway right?

I've used an STP fuel system cleaner. It made a noticeable difference to low/mid RPM power, and my average MPG went up by about 2.5.

oh please. You measured this increase in power how?

Or did you time your car between lampposts using your disney watch?

Perception, so entirely unreliable.

I keep track of my MPG figures at each fill up, this is harder to dispute. Maybe I just started driving differently, either way it has still paid for itself.

We know petrol injectors do get blocked over time, and there's plenty of places offering proper cleaning. I don't doubt that an additive could dissolve some of that muck.

Extra 2.5mpg? I call shens!!!

Did you scientifically measure this increase using a test circuit of known length?

Did you use a measuring jug or pipette to fill the tank?

Surely if he consistently measures MPG using the same method (presumably fill until pump stops, reset odometer, and peg distance covered against how much he fills up next time), and its generally pretty consistent, until he uses the injector cleaner and then consistently gets ~2.5MPG increases, then I'd say that was reliable enough to state there most likely was improvement.

Forecourt pump, how many taps of the nozzle do you give it before you hook it back up?

All these additives are worthless.

It the same rubbish as I see on QVC, waterless/waxless miricle shine! Sure way to scratch your paint.

How much difference to the MPG figure calculated does each tap make, less than 3 significant figures that's for sure.

We know injectors get clogged with stuff like tar over a long time, and this compromises the spray pattern, which compromises efficiency of the motor. The additives have been proven to dissolve tar, so why does everyone treat them like fuel magnets? They're not as good as an ultrasound bath, but they make a difference.

Before the treatment (about 7500 miles) my calculated MPG from the trip and forecourt pump readings were all inside the range of 27.5-32.5mpg, after the treatment (it's been another 7500 miles) they were all inside the range of 30-35mpg. Only one reading was out of this range, and it was in the low 40s after a particularly boring motorway economy run in ideal conditions.

If it was my driving that was different you'd have expected it to have settled back to my old ways, if it was my measurement at fault you'd expect it to average out over such mileage.
