260gtx to 5870 for BF:BC2?

Well they released a patch for the beta that instantly upped performance substantially, so it's clear that there's still some optimisation to be made.

I wonder Rroff, if nvidia cards were doing less well off in those benchmarks that were posted earlier, would you have a different opinion?

But did it make any difference to the gap in performance between the ATI and nVidia cards?

My opinion is if thats final performance (as in % difference between the different cards) I'd be a bit dissapointed if I'd upgraded to a 5 series card from nVidia to play this game and spent a lot of money on it - no more no less don't read any agenda into it.

Well with your comments your blaming the performance squarely at the 5xxx feet as if you know its nothing todo with the code of the game.

That is my dispute.

I'm not blaming the poor performance on the 5 series exactly - as above - poor performance could be due to poor coding, limitations from other things such as CPU - i.e. physics sapping a lot of the frametime or just that many effects are heavier on oldschool processing power such as the ROPs where the last 2 nVidia generations are still very capable.

And until you know what's what & take into account how well other games run on the 5870 in comparison to the 260 i would not even think about putting any blame on the hardware until that time.

Your reading far too much into what I've said.

fine whatever I'm not gonna argue over your perception of what I'm saying.

Your perception is only understood by yourself.

The 5870 is the only card in that chart that i would play the game on according to that chart & history of the forum has shown that many have upgraded & spent money on upgrades that show far less gains than that chart.

Suprised how well the 260 is doing... still hanging in there... with overclocking should be able to tuck in right behind the stock 5850 then.

What a joke.
And as if the 5850 cant be over clocked as well.

First is that i very much doubt that it could match a 5850 at stock let alone an overclocked 5850.

Look at the graph - a GTX285 is a couple of fps behind the 5850. A good overclock on the 260 puts it at 285 performance. Sure its now out of room for any more improvement but thats not the point... the point is for this specific game _if_ these results are representative of the performance gap in final results... thats a lot of money to spend if your upgrading from a 260 mainly for this game - basically around £200 for a 15-20% OC on the 5850 if you sell your 260 to fund the new card.

This game is also dx11 nobody knows if this will be used for improved graphics or improved fps. The chart really means little atm. Just look at what drivers did for dirt 2 on the 5 series and also need for speed shift frame wise.

It's probably a good time to get rid of that 260 as you should get a good price for it.
Then get a 5870, don't bother upgrading anything else like the CPU as it simply won't be needed, as my Q6600 & 5870 runs sweet as a nut.

Ive got the same prediament, but between a 5870 and a 5970. Game runs fine on full settings (mostly) on 260 gtx however as soon as you get on a quad bike it goes down to around 9fps.
