my mates at uni and he needs to ssh tunnel or something so he can play games. anyone know of any services that provide a lot of bandwith for gaming etc ?

thanks, andy.

He needs to talk to the admins at uni. They can be generous. I know when i was there they allowed certain ports to be open to my ip as long as i signed a form saying that any detrimental effect to my pc was my own problem or some thing.

What uni is he at? I thought most were pretty good with allowing gaming nowadays?

p.s. put this in pc gaming for more response.

Your Freedom is a particularly good one, but I'm not sure if it's allowed to be discussed here since you're wanting to bypass firewall restrictions and the like.

The university provides a service. The fact there is no alternative is immaterial, they make up the rules.

They are probably under very strict guidelines from JANET or whomever themselves. And wish to protect the security and infrastructure of the network and connected computers. Playing games is hardly a suitable use for such a network. Many universities (e.g. Manchester Uni) have alternative systems in place so you can game on residential networks.

Circumventing authority is not cool. Hence, my original comment stands verbatim.

a lot of forum uni's seem much better than ours because some like gotland host gaming servers

At mine I told them that they have a choice, either they let me tunnel through and help me do it, or that I would do it anyway.

They chose number #1 :D

FFS people like this annoy me. I hope your mate gets thrown out of uni.

thats a bit retarded isnt it.
I had a few mates who couldnt play games from their uni connection that they had in halls, its not so OTT that they would expect to be able to do something so simple as that, since the price of the internet was factored into the cost of halls.

In my uni I could do pretty much anything in the labs on my laptop when they had wifi access there that didnt need to go through a remote desktop. Could download torrents, play MW1, WC3 etc. Didnt help with my attendance still

You know, I don't understand why I can't break into next door, rape them all then steal all their stuff. After all, laws are only kinda rules?

Manchester used to have gaming servers but stopped this year due to lack of service.

They are awesome though, they give you explicit instructions on how to get any device (from DS to XBOX) online.

There wasnt any rules stating they were not aloud to online game, never did I say that.
And they were paying for the internet, its hardly stealing anything is it.

You're clearly irrational, why are you even trolling this thread? Is your life that sad?

Same with my halls. They used some really crap outside company called "Keycom" or "Keysurf" I think. They were terrible and the ping was crazy high!
