Wondering if anyone has any advice on a hotel or B&B in Birmingham.

Just a cheap one night stay, for after the rammstein gig. near the city centre preferably and I would need access to a car park that isn't going to cost me loads just to park for 24 hours.

I was close to booking the travel lodge with the £6 for 24 hour parking but just read 5 reviews which were from as recently as Decemeber 09. Place sounds like a hell hole and although it is just for one night, it has really put me off staying there.

There's an Ibis which is a bit grotty, but fairly cheap, at the Arcadian, and an Etap fairly near the O2 Academy (was Dome II) and the Pagoda roundabout (also near to new street).

As for travelodge, they almost universally get bad reviews on sites like expedia, so don't worry about that. The one we stayed in at christmas down in London had lots of 1 star reviews and it was fine to put our heads down of a night.

If you wanted to go a bit more upmarket there are places like the Malmaison at the Mailbox, they sometimes have deals on, but parking is fairly pricey.

It might be worth checking out the Travelodge at Fort Dunlop. It's not in the city centre (about 10 minutes out) but they operate a shuttle bus to New Street Station.

The travelodge you looked at isn't the Yately (or Yaxley?) one is it?
If so, I stayed there for a night and it was an utter hole. The room was fine, but the area and car park was so rough it was untrue. Actually, there must also have been something wrong with the room because I remember getting a refund but cannot remember why.

To be honest OP, it's at the NEC so you are better off looking for places in Solihull as it's on the very outskirts of Birmingham.

In that case, there are budget hotels such as Ibis and Etap at Birmingham International Airport (very close to NEC, daytime you can get the monorail from the airport to the station and vice versa).

Also a holiday inn express close by too.

From previous experience, if you were looking at city centre hotels, I'd personally stay away from Travelodge on Broad Street, the place is a serious dive and hasn't had a refurb in what would look like a few decades. There's another Travelodge in the city centre just off Newhall Street which was only opened about a year ago (iirc)

If it's just somewhere to sleep and you're not expecting much, have a look at NiteNite. It's cheap as chips, but is probably the size of a student room, 42" plasma, double bed, and a bathroom.. but not very much else.

Nite Nite is perfect for a night out. Walking distance from broad street (infact everywhere unless you're lazy) and cheap as chips. The rooms are tiny but if you just want somewhere to sleep then its perfect.
