To 0800 or to not

Depends on what sort of business it is personally, if it were a niche company that offered a service few others did I wouldn't expect an 0800 number but if it were a company such as an insurance company i'd expect that they did as all others tend to.

Keep your geo number; everyone has free minutes on their mobile to 01/02 numbers anyway. I get honked off having to pay to call 0845 and 0800 numbers from my mobile.

Local number, 0800 would look silly for a photographer or any sole trader.

64% of people know 0800 is free that means 36% probably think it costs more than a local rate number.

100% of people know that a local rate number is only ever going only cost them local rate money, either that or its built into their tariff.

You can always look into 0333 numbers. They are cheap for both land line and mobiles users, unlike 0800.

IF you are worried about geo location numbers like your Manchester number, then you could always look at a virtual number that redirects to any number you prefer. So you could have a London geo number directed to your Manchester number or mobile.

i found a site that does both:
http://www.citynumbers.co.uk/0333-numbers
http://www.citynumbers.co.uk/UK-Virtual-Numbers/Virtual-UK-Phone-Numbers.aspx

best of luck and hope you decide on your number

Consider this:

Geographic numbers are cheap to call on landlines

A vast majority of people have mobile phones... a lot fo those have free minutes.... which said free minutes can be used for other mobiles or geographic numbers eg your 0161.

Ill stick with the 0161 it seems a more personal service too if your calling a geographic number rather than a 0800 number

I wouldnt go with 0800.
You should treat your potential customers as thickies when it comes to advertising by trying not to put them off.
0800 to me doesn't look professional to your business. Your business is about the client and the photographer so I believe a business mobile number to look more direct to the photographer from a customers eyes.

I'm not sure bespoke photography services are the sort of thing which should need a freephone number to attract customers. Infact do you even want the sort of customers who wouldn't pay a penny a minute on a normal geographical number to call you?

Stick with a local geographical number.

I've been through this recently. Stick to 0161 for freelance work.
