How can Ford justify say around £13500 for one of these though?
Perhaps they will make good second hand bargains.

Simple to fix, cheap insurance, cheap tax, hassle free and easy to own in terms of ongoing maintenance, cheap dealer servicing, fuel efficient runabout, fairly well built, popular amongst shoppers and townsfolk as relatively small and easy to park, funky and fun. There's lots of good things about this car that would persuade your average hatchback buyer to *****. The fact that the main target market is not OcUK's demographic of 20-something males, does not make it a bad car for the cash.

New car prices are at the level that the market will tolerate; if nobody bought cars new then second hand prices would rise, meaning that more people would buy new as the prices were closer to those of second hand cars, and the scales would accordingly tip the other way.

When you can buy one of these for £4000, then and only then will it be a worthwhile car.

Even then most will be mistreated, tatty, still have a fair bit more to depreciate by and most importantly, it'd be 'old'. Well, old enough not to appeal to the sort of person who thinks that £13,500 on a 1.2 Ford Fiesta is a wise purchase.

That's actually a point - Why is it so expensive? Surely something like a Panda 100BHP is superior in every possible way, but costs a full £2,000 less?
