Quick one for anybody whose been to Vegas before...

Mandalay Bay. Whats the opinion of this place? I think we are going to go to Vegas this summer for a bit, and the GF has been convinced of this place through someone at her office. You know what women are like, i'd like to go where she fancies, but i wont if its not as good as others or there are any specific issues with Mandalay.

General comments appreciated.

Thanks :)

It's a very nice hotel but it's the furthest south on the strip, which means it's quite a walk to other hotels if that's what you plan on doing, better off with a hotel that's mid-strip like Planet Hollywood (cheap but nice), Bellagio Paris, Mirage or Caesars but you can get cabs everywhere.

I'd probably go to Caesars from what i have seen if it were entirely down to me, but you know how set on things women get when their friends have recommended somewhere and they have swatted up on the websites etc!

The location doesn't bother me as such, as long as cabs are readily available on a whim, i do not want to be waiting for ages or having issues with catching them?

Actually thinking about it there's a monorail from Mandalay Bay to Luxor and Excalibur, after that you can walk to New York New York and onto the Bellagio.

I've never stayed in Caesars but I don't think it's a particuarly nice hotel, it just seems too big and broken up, I think they have something like 5 hotel towers now from the constant expansion.

Nice place, but as mentioned it's the very bottom end of the strip so you are reliant on cabs/monorail/foot to get anywhere. Having said that, staying in the centre of the strip starts upping the cost big time - Bellagio, Venetian, CityCentre, Monte Carlo all charge a premium for where they are. Try New York New York or the MGM for a compromise price, depends on when you travel though.

Caesars is off the cards anyway if Mandalay is a decent prospect. Do you have any other comments specifically re Mandalay and the taxi situation at all? I assume it is fairly easy to get around? :)

Mandalay is certainly not any cheaper having ran a few quick examples. We simply thought that it looked like one of the better places. The price seems a much of muchness between them all so really doesn't come into it, we simply want the nicest possible suite without going crazy. If you think we can do better, and achieve a better position too, feel free to recommend - i know very little about vegas :)

Cabs are very easy to get, they queue up at the hotel entrance so you can leave the hotel and jump straight into one so no issues there but as said it can get expensive if you have to do that everyday or you can walk everywhere. Other than it's location though it is a very nice hotel, I've not stayed there but walked around it, the pool area is pretty cool.

If you want somewhere cheap mid-strip check out Planet Hollywood, they can be good on price, the Mirage can be quite cheap these days too.

It all depends when you plan on going with regards to price, my parents have just booked to go in March for 5 nights staying at the Wynn Encore (5*), think they said it cost under £600 each.

As i say, the price is not a concern, its a much of a muchness between the big names. I simply want the best without going crazy, the mandalay suites seemed the best blend in town :) Cabs make the location a complete non issue as far as i can tell, so i am not concerned about that?

Cool, thanks for your comments :)

If anybody has any more info specific to Mandalay, that would be fantastic :)

Mandalay is nice ( The Hotel at Mandalay is better ) however the location would make it a total no go for me

Caesers is the worst value in Vegas, plays on its name and nowhere near good enough for what they charge

that is exactly what it is, a place made up of far too many "extensions"

here goes

the best hotels in order

Encore
Wynn
Pallazzo
Bellagio
The Hotel
Venetian

Best Locations

Bellagio
Caesers
A ria
Vdara
Venatian
Pallazzo

these are of the top hotels only

Bellagio is my fave as the location is great and the hotel isn't bad either ;)

As an overall package it is still the best choice IMO

well, for a 1st time visitor anyway, we like the Platinum but it lacks the visual appeal for a noob :p

Cool, i wide with "The Hotel" if i end up doing Mandalay. You cast some doubt over me though with the location, given that taxi's are everywhere why is the location relevant? :)

Ok, Noted. All i have to go on is word of mouth and internet research, so this is proving its weight already.
