MK3 Mondeo

Indeed, which is why i didn't buy a Mondeo when i was looking for new car.
Well that, and they're much more expensive over here than in the UK ;)

You sure it's not the other way around? I swear in Germany it'll be 1:3 :p

Spot on about france though. All their big saloons have always been hatchbacks.
Volkswagen Golf. I rest my case :p

Looking in to it more, Romania has more sedans than hatchbacks. That will be because of the Dacia Logan, I suspect.

Yeah, i guess it depends on what is available at the price range.

For some reason i didn't realise you meant all cars, just the medium-size segment.
Obviously the Golf is a small hatchback, and it outsold the Bora comprehensively, but if we just look at the mid-size segment, i suspect in Germany it will swing the other way.

I don't know - what's the medium-size segment? For typical comparisons the Mondeo is not in the same segment as the 3 Series, A4 or C-Class. If you were to take everything that's about the same physical size, then sure, most would be sedans - but it would be similar in the UK, too. Only the Vectra and Mondeo have sold in big numbers as hatchbacks in that size.

Those compact executives aren't available as hatchbacks though.
Although the estate version could well outnumber the saloons.

Even Saab dropped the hatchback when it launched the 9-5, so maybe the demand for hatchbacks decreased in the 90s.
I'm not an expect in this subject at all though, so i really don't know .

Exactly - they don't make hatchback versions!

The sedan Mondeo is rare in the UK, just as much as it is relatively rare in Europe, too (in Germany the hatchback outsold the sedan 3:1). I can't think of any segment where there are more sedans than hatchbacks in continental Europe, where the same isn't also true or very nearly true for that segment in the UK.

One of the reasons I was so happy with my ST purchase, it's a saloon in performance blue, so double the rare-factor!....just wish it had xenons.

Saloons are rare-ish, it's just they are difficult to tell the difference between hatch and saloon on first glance, they all look like hatches. There are more saloons around than you think.
