Hi,

Finally thinking about replacing my 2000 Nissan Almera :D

Looking for something quite small as where I live the driving and parking is stupidly narrow.

Not to bothered about insurance cost, but running cost needs to be fairly sensible and budget of around £10K I guess.

Was originally looking at Golf's and Audi A3's but think even the newer shaped ones are just a bit to wide to park.

Thanks,

...how can a Golf or an A3 be too wide too park :o ...I suggest you learn to park.

But anyway I am not going to recommend a Golf on a £10k budget, I would however recommend and E46 3 series BMW, you could get a nice 330i or a CI if you want a coupe and have change from your budget to run it, plenty of change if you get the saloon and note the coupe, or you could bet the cheaper 325i/CI and bank about £4k of your budget and have a great car, that's miles nicer to drive than a Golf or an A3, better looking, has a nicer interior and an all round better feel to it. They are bigger than the cars you listed, but they aren't big by any means, they are smaller than a Mondeo or Vectra by a noticeable amount.

Oh I dunno on reflection I suppose I would recommend a MK 5 Golf GTI, they are great cars ...but I don't really know how much they cost to buy now, you must be able to get a decent one for £10k though by now.

He wants 'sensible running costs' and is upgrading a Nissan Almera, I really don't think a 3 litre BMW is his ideal car. No wonder us BMW owners keep getting flack, somebody could ask to spec'd a minibus and there would STILL be an attempt to get them into a 330i.

He's had an Almera for years and years and presumably been happy with it so he doesnt seme like a 200bhp+ person, therefore why pay the considerble cost of running a car like that?

Sounds like a Focus 1.6 or similar woule be ideal.

I have to try! ...just in case he hadn't considered such a car. Anyway, I'm not a BMW owner at the moment :D

But yes fair point it was a bit of a silly recommendation, albeit somewhat tongue in cheek, I suspected I wouldn't get taken entirely seriously. So my real recommendation is a Focus I suppose, can't argue with that one.

Hard to explain but the road I have to drive down to park and turn around I can barely drive down. My dad has a Nissan Primera and he can't drive down it. As there are cars parked on one side of the 'road' and houses on the other.

I just checked parkers and my car is 1.7mm wide which is pretty narrow compared to most modern cars. Even checked the new clio's is wider !

Well you aren't going to get anything that narrow unless you buy something like a Fiat Panda, something tiny basically. Where does your Dad park his Primera then? ...maybe you could park there too if it isn't too much hassle.

I am surey ou thought of that already though, just an idea anyway, I find the thoguht of having to pick your car because of the road you live quite ....odd.

A Honda Insight is 1695 mm wide.

Enjoy the amazing fuel economy too, thought I suspect the old ones are too old and the newer ones are a bit expensive.

Peel p50?
