Firstly I apoligise because this probably comes up all the time.

Obviously a first car needs to be a small engine, my quotes @ TPFT are around 1.2kish+ on the following @ 1.0's ~ 1.25. :-

I'm basically just going by what I think are the obvious choices, Fiesta/Corsa/106/Clio possibly?

Cars basic use will be to taxi the GF an my 2yr old son around, I want to spend around 2k at very maximum, I havent passed yet but I'm going for a look around on the weekend for a sit in a few cars, I'm going to be keeping this one (hopefully) for a few years. I personally want a Corsa over other small cars, the 1.0 quotes me at 1.1k TPFT. I know to you lot it'll be crap slow but its a start! I really want the newerish model, I think it was started around Y reg? not really sure.

Is the Corsa an alrite choice? how do they rate with big problems etc? a friend of mine is on his 2nd Punto which has died with HG failure so thats kind of put me off them!

Do not link engine capacity to insurance, makes little to no odds.

Corsa/106/Clio all have boy racer tie ins, and as such tend to be more difficult to insure. Look at barges :)

fiesta is a good choice for these things. For me the money i had the fiesta's (imo) looked like granny cars so i got a 2001 seat ibiza 1.4.

The 1.4 made no difference in insurance. Looks like the one below. it was a good few hundreed cheaper than something like a corsa and probably a little better. Basicly a VW polo

When i first found ocuk motors there was a thread asking people about the worst car they'd driven.

I think that generation corsa had the most mentions (including one from me)

I'd have a look at bigger cars as well, ones that are normally not crashed by chavs showing off to schoolgirls in the McDs carpark are surprisingly affordable to insure

Yeah I'd love to drive a Focus actually, I'll definitely look further afield than said cars. Didn't realise the Corsa generated so much hate! I think I'll steer clear :p

my worst car would probably be the 1.25 fiesta!
bigger cars are not always that much to insure! at 18 i had a MB 123 series 300td, insurance wasnt that much more than the mk2 golf.

if i was going to do it all again, something like a 2.08v cavalier or the modern equivalent.
