Gigabyte GA-EX58-EXTREME

It's awesome :)
Though actually the same as the UD5 but with a higher price tag and fancier heatsink.

It's the GA X58A UD7 which leads the way as far as Gigabyte boards go at present. Personally I'd buy the UD5, first gen usb3 doesn't appeal to me.

Both boards will only hit about 223 BCLK without hardmodding but thats still over 4.6Ghz with a i7 920. You will be limited by CPU heat or voltage before the motherboard i expect.

cool i think i will go with the P6T deluxe seems pretty damn good. just been looking around these past few days comparing different X58 boards and been tempted by the gigabyte and the R2E but the R2E doesnt seem to justify its price and the gigabytes seem good but i reckon asus is a good choice. please object if you think im wrong :p

i think your wrong. gigabyte boards in my experience are just better. gigabyte dont take ages for RMA replacement if the board goes wrong unlike asus.

Agreed - I used to be an Asus man until I found out just how bad their support can be. Have been a very happy Gigabyte user for last three years, which is quite funny really because years ago I had a bad experience with a Gigabyte board which led me to Asus in the first place.

I think Gigabyte have improved their products and service quite substantially in recent years, but I fear Asus has stood still a bit too much, and perhaps take too much for granted. This is of course only my personal oppinion.

Cool thanks for the feedback guys. I'm a very bad decision maker so all your replies are very much appreciated. So do you really think i should go with Gigabyte? I like the look of both boards to be honest. a lot of people are very happy with the P6T Deluxe but also with the Gigabyte. Decisions decisions...

I've just experienced a gigabyte rma. It took four days, excellent communication throughout and would have been a day quicker if I'd been quicker off the mark. Faultless.

Four days, thats an excellent turnaround for an rma. To the op, both boards are excellent for overclocking and will get you to 4ghz with a bit of tweaking. However, gigabyte do have a better reputation for support. Asus are reputed to be working on improving this side of things, though i hope i never have to experience it first hand, but there isnt enough information from end users to confirm if things have got better, could be a case that very few boards are needing to be rma'ed.

Ok thanks a lot guys but I'm still undecided about going for the Extreme or the UD5. Is the Extreme worth the extra 20 quid?

Nope its the same board with different cooling. You can flash the UD5 with the Extreme bios's too. I dont think with air or watercooling your CPU you will really find UD5's cooling will limit you.
