AvP MP demo is live

i cant see what all the drama is about really.

For me personally i was always looking at this game as being an awesome single player experience full of atmosphere and great memories of the movies. I remember in the original AvP games playing as a marine and hearing the blip blip blip of motion tracker would send shivers down my spine.

If it recreates that in single player it will be well worth my money.

I do agree that DM was a bad idea for the demo as its a tired washed out game mode but im certainly not gonna judge the game based on it.

For me it has to deliver a great single player experience, the MP is 2nd best but id still like it to be good fun, from what ive seen in the demo it will be one of those MP's you jump into for a quick hr or so and thats fine by me :)

That was some demo .. probably not fair to judge the game on this but what a load of carp!

I have probably spent about 1 hour waiting to join various games (now that is a pants way of doing things!) and then only actually got into 1 for a few seconds before losing connection .. wtf! I have 4mb adsl and no problems elsewhere so something sucks which says loads about their overall quality etc. I'll wait for reviews of SP and maybe 'trial' it first as I have fond memories of the previous games ..

Would i be right in assuming this is yet another console port? Reminds me of the game lobby in left 4 dead.

the demo is yeah, its apparently a rushed copy of the console demo hence the lobby and rubbish matchmaking system.

"The full game features the ability to browse for and create games but for the purposes of simplicity the demo was limited to matchmaking, alongside the ability to set up groups with friends which mitigated yesterday’s issues for many."

Can someone please post the key bindings for this , ie pred shoulder canon etc and all other keys thanks

wasd = move
rebind shift to sprint (when rebinding dont have two keys for one action)
rebind q to focus
r = invis
f = vision modes

Gameplay:
Find plasma caster on map, hold E to pick up (hold Q to see points of interest, weapons etc)
select plasma caster with number keys
hold down mouse 3 to lock on and fire

Hold Q to focus and point at a ledge, if you get a column of red, press space to jump directly there

The little glowing power points around the map are for pred to recharge from, power metre is on the left. Health on the right, press h to use power to heal.

Just had a quick go of the demo as an Alien, and I have to say I didn't think much of it. Climbing around on the walls and ceilings felt really clunky and half the time it wouldn't let me drop, which was especially annoying when someone was shooting at me. The combat felt weird as well; when I was attacking someone, it just felt like my hits weren't connecting even if I managed to kill them. And then there's the lag... my god was that bad. I must admit I didn't notice it for the first few minutes, but after a while everyone would be like teleporting around the map, which made it hard to fight anyone.

The single player seems pretty good from the videos I've seen, so I'll probably still get it even if the multiplayer's a bit rubbish.

Or by pressing the space bar on a straight surface. Once you learn the controls the Alien can move around the map with ease.

Now the match making system is fixed, I've had a proper go. Can't say im impressed at all. The game to me is just....dull. It feels like a rock paper scissors game- who can bash their keyboard with the right skills fast enough wins. There seems a lack of thought to the level included in the demo- a bod standard level design, and no feel of tension or fear as the whole thing is so well lit up. As said before, the alien in particular feels clunky to play generally.

The graphics aren't much to write home about either- bland textures, okay lighting, etc. Maybe it will look better in dx11, but I can't really expect a huge difference.

I'll cancel my preorder and perhaps reorder when the supposedly proper version has been released, and has proved to be good.

As Alien have some fun tail bashing the lights. You can take out about 75% of the light sources. Marine players tend to avoid dark area's for some reason...

Wish the demo was team based rather than straight dm. Most fun is when a group of aliens agree gang up on the rest :D.

Whilst that does sound fun, the map should be dark from the off, and also yes, it does seem very odd that the cloak barely disguises you as a predator!

I initially thought the alien felt a bit slow and clunky. Stuck with it for a bit and soon realised it was more to do with me not actually knowing the controls properly, which it sounds like you dont either :p

As for the hits not connecting properly and lag....that will be because the game is running peer to peer in the demo, the game at release will feature dedicated servers :)

Especially when a marine gets the smartgun, all I seem to do when playing as a marine is go get the smartgun, stay on that high ledge and get an easy 4/5 kills whilst the ammo lasts.

Have to agree here, the map is too bright initially. I figure that this and Aliens seeing through the cloak is more about game balance.

I'm looking forward to seeing the full PC optimised version - trying to decide to stick with my 4890 or plug in the 5770, can't afford to xfire that yet LOL.

Feels like the other AvP games which does show some promise. I love playing as predator, he's savage if played correctly.

Then there's no point in having the cloak in the first place because even marines seem to be able to spot you when cloaked despite being completely still.
