Dantes Inferno

Is this game really worth buying or will it suffice as a rental?

I played the demo and quite liked it as it reminded me of Ninja Gaiden 2 for its brutality, which is the only game of this type I've ever enjoyed. Played through DMC4 and found it to be a chore.

I've got it on rental but I would definitely buy it as there seems to be replay potential - using holy powers or unholy powers or a mixture of both. Then there are Judas coins and Beatrice stones to find, too.

Enjoying it so far apart from the fact I encountered and environment bug and fell through the ground after a 10 minute beast master sequence, nearly through my controller at the wall.

Apart from that it's good fun, I've gone for mainly Holy abilities because...well they look nicer and feel more rewarding when used i.e more flashy lights.

my only gripe with the game is the closed in feeling Hell has, the environments are just too small.

Oh and those spinning ****ers with the massive maces, fighting 2 of them in a space about 15ft across is like trying to stand on top of a ****ed off lion.

Im going for the holy abilities too for the health etc. Duno if you get it on the xbox but on the psn you can download souls aswell which is kind of handy

On PSN there was packs of 500, 2000, 5000 and 10000 or something like that. Only the 500 one is free.

tbh I think that is a real rip off, especially as this game (unlike God of War) has sections (that I noticed) where you get infinite enemies so you can just get those souls yourself.

Also I am only on the 2nd/3rd level and I am already fairly sure I will have enough souls to power up everything as none of the items cost that much.

I'm going for the unholy abilities, 1st time round, and holy 2nd time I play it.

Just finished the game! I thoroughly enjoyed it, but found the normal - hard difficulties just too annoyingly difficult, it ended up being one of those games I couldn't put down until it was completed.

It's got decent replay value though as I went through as Unholy that time and will go through as Holy next time....on a more difficult setting.

Some quite nasty / gruesome moments in there, and a tad disappointed in myself for finishing it so quickly.

Im playing it on normal and having a tough time. Did you find any of the beatrice stones or anything? Also congrats my money was on rp finishing it first based on him being a god of war pro.

LOL you guys are wimps :)

I consider myself and god of war pro and im halfway though the game on HARD difficulty setting. the easiest way to beat the grimreaper *death* is to block and block some more
then take xxxxx on his ass then block again then let him stab block block then xxxxx again ;) rince and repeat.

Anywho, taking a break now because I just encountered a dick move of amazing proportions in the form of an elevator where you have to make a cog follow a route up or you get burned alive, priblem being at the top the game gives no indication of what your supposed to do, there is a climbable wall that goes no where and the line the cog needs to follow stops.

The game seems to do this a lot, i.e trial and error where error means repeating the last several infuriating minutes of gameplay to just fail all over again.

Oh and those exploding fire enemies can suck a fat one.

On a plus the last boss I fought was quite fun, without spoiling it: the fat bloke with the gold cross, really makes you learn the art of the projectile block/counter and evading.

Divine Armor is OP.

In hindsight I didn't block enough. I suspect you would have to rinse and repeat a lot as he had quite a high energy bar that did no deplete quickly. Took the fun out of it a bit that's why I dropped to Normal difficulty.

Still Normal mode seems too easy for me but Hard mode might not be as bad now I have played it on Normal a bit. I think I am only a few levels through as I just killed Marc Anthony. Might give Hard a go for 2nd playthrough (as Holy).

How many hours do you think it took to complete? I am not very far through and trying to collect everything I see, I am sure I have missed some Relics, but I want to get as much as I can (I am hoping powerups/relics carry over to your next playthrough).

Edit: Did you manage to max out your powerups, i.e. was amount of souls released by enemies an issue or not?

Took me about 5 1/2 or 6 hours to do it, but like I said, kicking myself now as I wish I'd gone for the harder setting :(

I didn't find anywhere near everything, I got about 1/3 of the Judas coins and relics and didn't find any beatrice stones lol. Something tells me I might have been in a bit of a rush to get to the next fight scene! And you'll be glad to know you can carry them over to the next playthrough, your powerups anyway, I'm not 100% sure about relics etc.

I didn't quite manage to fill every slot, I was left with one left to buy, but I was skipping some soul wells so it's my own fault :)

The small puzzle and platform sections are infuriating at times, but once done once you won't forget where to go / what to do.

Flippin' eck. I'm not amused at these bare-boobed women in Lust... They don't die quickly enough for my liking. :D

just tried the demo on the ps3 and i really liked it, death was a problem until i found the block lol :p will pick it up for sure unless i can get a secondhand one
