Quck question - how much hard drive space required for windows 7 professional 64 bit?

Thinking of purchasing an 80gb ssd - will this be too small for running this OS?

Set asside 20 odd GB. 80 is fine though using old hard drives isn't the best idea if you are going to rely on them for important stuff!

You need 40gb for Vista / 7 64bit, I'd say 50gb to be comfy (office etc)

The windows updates make it expand quite quickly

I'd agree with bledd. - Windows 7 (and Vista) are huge!

I had a 30GB partition for Vista and it wasn't enough - Windows 7 is currently on a 50GB partition and it seems to be fine (touch wood!)

My Windows folder is about 14GB alone, so 20GB is nowhere near enough. I agree that 50GB is probably a good start.

I only ask as my current HD has died and I've seen some stats which say windows7 pro takes 192GB or have I misread?

I think that's the upper RAM limit for W7 Pro x64, so yes you've probably misread somewhere.
