subject is lacking...

keep on at it though. Personally It's not something I do unless I'm bored and playing with camera settings.

How about setting youself a challenge? Bit cliched but... meh.

One the good side you've thought about lighting and got a bit creative with that, the coloured background helps too.

On the not-so-good side the subject isn't very interesting and the central composition makes for an uninspiring image. The white balance is a bit too warm for me.

Regarding the 'no editing' comment, who cares?? editing nearly always makes things better. Those who can't, don't!

As above, the first thing that really shouts at me is that the white balance is out.
