Yay! Virgin have finally fixed my internet

Ever since moving over to VM 20Mb a few months ago speeds had been unbelievable.

Downloads were capped at around 5Mb/s for 23 hours a day and packet loss was over the moon. Couldn't even watch a youtube video without wanting to slit my wrists waiting for it to buffer every 3 seconds. Only time I got full bandwidth was between 4-5 AM.

But for the past few days I've been getting a completely rock solid 2.33MB/s from Usenet any time of the day, browsing is much faster and i can actually watch youtube videos.

Still seems off to me, unless you are currently spanking your connection whilst testing it:

I get 1/3rd of your ping, over twice the distance.

Yep the ping and upload should be better, were you using the connection at the time?

Weird, my packetloss won't test now on the MK server, worked first time now it wont, but ping is decent

What does jitter cause? I'm very sceptical of these speedtest / pingtest things.

Can i hijack this thread?

Since Christmas our connection has been awful. Literally taking minutes to load pages. Speedtests are giving speeds of less than 200kbps most nights.

Any ideas? On 50Mb virgin :/

I get about the same results as Asim, have done for the last 18 -24 months.

My connection has never dropped out, always maxes out on usenet and has never caused any problems.

My ping is usually around the 40ms - 60ms and as i have said above it has never ever caused a problem, not in games or anything.

asim18 where abouts in East London are you? I'm between Leyton and Stratford stations (so on the Stratford exchange) and have been getting shocking service for the last few months.

When you say they fixed your internet did they actually come round and do anything or was it just one day better?

The distances on there are pretty much irrelevant.

Your ISP might route your connection up and down the country twice to a server that's <10 miles from you, and conversely, might have a massive interconnect that peers wth a conneciton that a server 300 miles away uses.
