"Exciting news..."

How does the number of people playing have any bearing on how easier the game is let alone have an influence on the numbers? I don’t understand what you wrote.

The scratch cards had better odds ealry on to give people a taste of winning but obviously the odds remain the same in the lottery games - giving the benefit of the doubt shared prizes are split more ways I suppose but I suspect basic ignorance.

i might be wrong, but say if 1 million played the lotto, that means if you put 2 lines on, thats a 2/1mill chance of winning. if 3mill play the lotto, you have a 2/3mill chance of winning

That would only be true if exactly 1 person won the lottery every week. Using your theory, if you were the only player then you would definitely win, which obviously isn't true.

It's based on the possible combinations of numbers, not the number of people who play.

All the odds of winning are down to what balls come out of the machine not how many people play the game.

Yes if more people play and pick the same numbers as you, you wont win as much as the money gets shared across a larger number of people but this doesn’t effect the odds of winning.

Anyone else log in as fast as humanely possible when they get these emails? I was at a clay shoot, and made my excuses so I could go check on the phone!

(Only to be hideously disappointed, of course)

Had that email twice within 2 weeks for £10 each :(

I still run a syndicate and for the last 2 weeks I've forgot to buy the tickets and both weeks we've won a tenner between us which I will have to pocket :(
Bloody good job it wasn't millions :)
I'd be dead now.

Just woke up, been browsing the forums this morning on the lappy in bed, thinkiing about life (because of the riding a wave through life thread)
Thought I'd open my emails and nonchalantly scroll through all the "reply to thread on OC" mails when this suddenly stares me in the face!

Your National Lottery Play by Direct Debit prize will be paid to your registered Bank Account shortly.

Not been onto the site yet to check as I am delaying the inevitable sinking back into reality when I have only won a tenner. :D
I've never one won anything more than £10....

But this got me thinking..
How big a prize will they just transfer like that before having to ring and do other checks and stuff...
Anyway, off to HQ now to find out....

******..
That was short lived.

Congratulations! You're a winner £10.00

Lotto ticket number Your prize of £10.00 has been paid to your bank/building society account.

Looks like I will be amongst you peasants a little while longer then. :D

I've had twenty quid sitting in my lottery account for years, I've occasionally logged in, played a couple of online games and dropped it down a bit but always won one or two games to bring it back to around £20.

Yesterday I threw it all into lucky dips.

Today I have £0 in my balance.

Oh well, it was fun while it lasted :)

Old man fails at the internet.
I must be doing something wrong because I keep thinking I've bought a month of tickets for the syndicate but my account says no.
I've now got to fork £30 out of my own pocket :(

Must remember to click > click > click again > submit > confirm > click > submit > wait for email

I started a Direct Debit yesterday as I keep forgetting to put my numbers on.. at least the internet does it for me now :D

*Waves at West* Muha!

Theres several people that come into the shop and spend over £150 per week on lottery and a lot that spend more than £50!

Quite shocking when i checked ~60 tickets all with 7 lines on and the poor sod won nothing!

I remember once at work a few years back we was on lunch break and we decided to all chip in a fiver each and buy scratch cards. There was 6 of us. £30 worth of cards and iirc we netted around £100. Spent the rest of the lunch scracthing them. We did get told off by the GM for being daft because we purchased so many.

I had a fiver a week running for a long time and never really won very much. Gave up in the end and now have a go at EuroMillions but only once in a while.
