I thought these cards were based on the reference PCB? There is photo in the 5870+5970 thread that looks like one, with the power coming out of the side. However, the cards I have have the sockets on the end like the 5850!

Is this a newer revision?

yeah they brought out a new version & from the reviews I read they run hotter than rev. 1 - don`t understand why they changed it? Luckily I have a rev. 1:D

Yeah the Ver 2 of the card is 1 inch shorter but has power leads coming out of the back so it's probably longer than a normal 5870 which makes me wonder why they bothered.

Thanks for the link. I've got to agree with you about the colour, I was a bit surprised when I opened the box! Fortunately my RAM is a similar colour, so it doesn't look too bad:

All the same, I would've preferred black. At least they're quieter under load. :)

what are the temps like on the cards? they look a bit cramped in there - I used to find the top card ran nearly 20° hotter with Xfire/SLI so I`ve stayed clear ever since,

Surely these are just 5970 GPU's on a 5850 PCB? If so they will most likely have inferior power phase control. Seems like a way to save costs without passing them on to the consumer.

Sapphire also do the same thing with their 5770's. They use 5750 PCB's.

Sorry for Offtopic but - Josh just a quick look at the inside of your PC, are your fans on your CPU cooler the wrong way round? :|

Sounds possible. Would be a relief to be honest, would make getting waterblocks later on a bit easier. :)

I don't think so - air is going from front to back, and being sucked out of the top by the white Fractal fans.

AH okay! Makes sense :D I was a bit confused.

I was slightly gutted aswell as I thought I may have put mine in the wrong way round too if yours was going front to back :D

Josh

Can you look @ my post regarding xfire of these cards and let me know what benefits I would gain please.
