Any suggestions as to what to do?

Requirements. Probably staying in Ballymun hotel. Will be using public transport. Limited budget. There from friday night to sunday morning. Looking for something preferably non drinking, though it's not essential, just as long as the person can get in (no valid ID).

Thanks

I'm led to believe there's a pot'o'gold somewhere in Ireland, as well as some lucky charms. I'd be searching for those.

If you can find the cereal then it's an even bigger win.

Dublin without the pubs. Hmmmm :(

Generally pubs allow children in before 7pm. Dublin pubs though can be quite strict regarding ID though. There are some great pubs with great Guinness. Brits usually tend to come away disappointed usually because they expected every single Irish pub to be a roller coaster of live Irish music and dancing.

  • Have a nice walk around Temple bar, prices have come down substantially since the recession. Get a bite to eat. Check menupages.ie for reviews of eateries.
  • Go to a comedy gig, international comedy bar, laughter lounge etc.
  • See a movie, some of the cinemas in the city centre are crap. There is a decent one on Parnell St. it used to be an IMAX.
  • I know you're on a limited budget but if you are anyway inclined to browse some shops. Grafton St., Powerscourt and St. Stephens Green shopping centre. It sound like you are bringing your son but if it is a daughter maybe she would like to take a look around a mall. Dundrum shopping centre is quite big and nice. A 15 minute Luas ride from the city centre.
  • Go to the theatre, check some reviews of plays in the Abbey to see if anything decent is on.
  • Guinness storehouse, its pretty obligatory. Almost every tourist does it. It isn't amazing but rarely do people regret it.
  • There is a natural history museum beside the Dáil (parliament) I think it's free.
  • Buy a loaf of bread and feed ducks in St. Stephens Green.
  • You didn't mention dates but the Jameson film festival is coming up also some Six Nations matches.

Ballymun is a notorious dive. How did you manage to end up with accomodation there? It can be very dangerous. The north side of Dublin is rougher. The south side is much prettier.

Public Transport, Dublin Bus and the Luas are your best friends. Get a 3 day ticket or something otherwise you'll end up spending a fortune. Also the timetables at each Bus stop are as accurate as a blind sniper.

You haven't given a lot of information, dates, number travelling (EDIT: I see you mentioned 2), preferences of activities i.e. sightseeing, outdoor activities, music etc.

What did you do in other cities you've visited that you enjoy doing? EDIT: Not to be nosey but what age are you and your accomplice.

I am only going to chose the Ballymun travelodge because its nearest the airport. Would you be able to suggest somewhere else for around 50euros a night?

Do pubs in Ireland routinely check ID's to gain entry? One of us will have ID, the other won't :/

How much would you reckon a weekend in Dublin would cost? I don't want to go overboard but there isn't a lot of point going unless you do it somewhat right.

Thanks for the info btw.

Drinking and soaking up the CRACK!!!

So the craic is simply in the pubs? Hmm, guess i'll have to drink and she can just watch. :D

Seriously though, that would be no problem, but do they even let you inside the pub or are you ID'ed at the door?

Just want a nice peaceful weekend where we can have a good time.

Some suggestions here have been helpful, and any more to make this a lovely weekend would be appreciated.

I'm going with a "bird".

;)

Dump her for an Irish bird!

Biggest mistake of my life not getting with the irish bird when she was sitting nibbling on my ear... :(

Though life is good now, at the time I was inconsolable until the next night out came around :p

Hahaha, I'll stick with this one for now thanks. :)

Any other suggestions for where to go?
