crash bang wallop OH NOES *cheeky smile*

My first ever driving lesson - it was 'bin day' - I drove into a bin!
(to be fair, it was half on the road... I pulled into the kerb and just brushed it - it didn't fall over...!)

Stalled at a traffic light when the light went green.

Bad enough the school bus was next to me at the time with friends on.

Worse still cos the car behind didnt notice - went straight in to the back of my car.

Even worse - my driving instructor was Italian, and promptly went mad shouting at the guy behind.

Not the best.

Worst thing?

I stalled on the first few lessons.

I just got better with each lesson. Bettered my clutch control, smoother gear changing, anticipation and awareness...

Does anybody watch "Muslim Driving School" on BBC2? There are some real idiots on there. I'm astonished when I see someone that doesnt even have basic life ability like spatial awareness/lane positioning.

The only bad thing i did whilst learning to drive was cut someone up on the motorway when changing lanes. It didn't really occur to me to check the mirror to make sure you had passed them before you move back ;)

Uhm, we were joining a road on a t junction, and I looked right and it was clear, so my instructor said 'it's clear that way' so I pulled out thinking he meant his way was clear!

Luckily he jammed the brakes on..not sure why I thought he'd tell me that, or why I took his word for it anyway!

My dad used to take me out for practice occasionally. One time he picked me up on his way through our town towards the end of his shift (he was a bus driver) and took me back to his depot so I could drive home. When we got to the yard he gave me the keys and left me to get myself settled in and start the car whilst he parked the bus and did his paperwork.

He'd left it parked in gear which I never thought to check so as soon as I tried to start it it lurched into the wall that only a few inches in front of the car. Got out, had a quick look and it was all fine so I said nothing and carried on as normal when he got to the car :D

The first time I had a lesson with the instructor in my own car, pulled out of the drive and I noticed the door light was on, so quickly opened and shut my door as we were moving. Instructor was like WHOHAA then realised what I'd done and had to take a good five minutes of slow deep breathes ahaha.

1) Stopped by the police by pulling out on them at a roundabout in Penzance

2) Practicing in a car with a tow bar and cracking another cars number plate.

999cc uno.

Came over a crest too fast, drifted into the opposing lane a bit, 4x4 approaching head on, more lock, tank slapper ensues...

I'd love to say I caught it using skill but it slapped like 10 times and just got to slow to do any more.

And I bet now you have done it a few times, without thinking about it. :p

On my first lesson I FAILED at steering. Got the hang on pulling away etc quite nicely. However at the end of the road there was a little roundabout (not a white painted on one, a proper kerbed one) Anyway, I can't really remember what happened it was so scary. At about 5mph ALL over the place. Not good! Mounted the out kerb, the roundabout. All sorts. WHAT A MESS LOL.

Lurched foward slightly coming up to a roundabout, stopped just over the stop line. Person coming around the roundabout obviously (fair enough) got scared and emergency braked, but by the time they had come to halt I was back in control etc. Anyway, don't know WHAT made me do it but I just NAILED it across the roundabout quicker than anyone (instructor included) knew what was going on!

Thats about it, apart from the normal stalling etc.

I got my first taste of what a clutch smells like when it's REALLY burning :D

My dad took me out to do some clutch control, so hill starts, reverse parking on a steep hill, reversing round a corner on a steep hill etc. Result = stinking smoky clutch :D
