Hey guys,

I'm not up to speed on the iPhone jailbreaking/unlocking, someone on here might know the current situation. I used to have a 2G iPhone (original, US import), which I unlocked and gave to my sister after she dropped her 3G iphone, now she's just tried to restore it (presumably to the latest firmware, 3.1.3), even though I told her to absolutely not do it  Now it's not accepting the SIM (O2 iPhone contract), even though this is an american iPhone I would have thought this should still work?

Any of you guys know if this should work? If not, is this firmware unlockable? I'm having trouble getting a straight answer out of google.

Ok I'll give that a go, hopefully it's more straightforward than the first time i jailbreaked this thing. Oh, and I found out why it doesn't work even with an O2 SIM, apparantly iTunes searches for the IMEI number, if it's not registered with your specific provider then it won't let you activate. It might be possible to change the IMEI to the (smashed) 3G iphone, altho I suspect that's risking bricking the phone or getting it permabanned, so I'll stick with the unlocking. Cheers :)

Changing the IMEI is against the law and you can get done for it.

Would you be looking to sell the Smashed 3g? I need one for parts :)

snowbreeze does a restore to 3.1.2 if your already on 3.1.3, not tried it though.

cant imagine a 3.1.3 being long now.

Oh yeh, that's the other reason I thought it would be a bad idea :p I suppose they'd automatically assume it'd been stolen and then ban it from the network.
