PS3 Games Performance Vs Xbox 360?

I think the best setup is a gaming PC and a PS3. If you don't have a PC that is capable of playing newer games then get both. At least in that situation you will be gaining the chance to play Mass Effect and L4D etc.

He also missed the fact games have to fit into limited random access memory, there's no way you can get around that even with unlimited disc sizes. 200GB blu-ray disc storage won't help much if the system's only got 256mb on the system and graphics memory each. A classic example of this would be the storage/access conundrum we see with Metal Gear Solid 4. Each chapter has to be installed and uninstalled. The bigger the size of the content we see on games, the more exacerbated this problem can potentially become. Why do you think developers are so afraid to go all-out and utilize the entire BD disc?

If larger disc storage sizes did make an impact, we would have seen a discernible difference between PS3 and 360 games by now. So after five years, except for Metal Gear Solid 4's installation issues which Konami imposed a publication embargo on until the game's release - why haven't we?

You are a very ignorant man, bloodline76.

The problem is that if you're going to make a game multiplatform then you're not really going to spend much more time on one game than the other if you want a simultaneous release schedule.

Developers now are finding it better to code for the PS3 so much more releases are becoming standard and their is a very small difference in quality, the PS3 exclusives are going to focus more on Quantity, since they can fit more data on to the disc.

Sony have set out on a 10 year life cycle and imo I think it's going to go beyond that.

keep both consoles, buy multiplat games on 360 so you can enjoy them with the majority of your friends and then use the ps3 to play the awsome exclusives, thats what i do and it works well :)

I also have both,

It's swings and roundabouts, some games look/play better on the ps3 others on the 360

"The 360 generally looks better" is rubbish as it is personal preference,

From personal experience
the 360 generally has less jaggies and is brighter (assumably because of the AA)
The PS3 generally looks sharper and darker

Found this article which illustates it quite well (i would ignore the first few shots as it seems they are taken from different times of the day):

Having visited friends houses where they claim the 360 looks "better" it was because they haven't bothered to configure their tv's properly so i would say out of the box the 360 may look marginally better.

I prefer the 360 but really couldn't tell you why, I have both and my PS3 is just an expensive blu-ray player at the moment.

I am considering getting FF13 on PS3 as it seems it will be better on there and I need to justify the £350 I spent on it but I would miss achievements and and the xbox live community, This means that I am actually considering getting it on 360 even though it is meant to be superior on PS3

If there is a performance difference then its lazy developers, not the machines imo.

I own both and I have noticed some differences... example.. FIFA09 looks much much better on the 360... GTA4 looks better on the PS3... same for quite a few other games.

I have had both since launch, since owning the PS3 the XBOX has been a paperweight ( I even bought a HDMI XBOX a while back to see if it would be quieter), the primary reason is not games or graphics...purely the bloody racket the Xbox makes.

I have never understood the problem with PSN people seem to have, it works and works well, I didnt have to pay £50 for a wireless adapter, hve never had to pay a yearly subscription either, on those counts alone it's vastly superior to XBOX live in my book.

Ive also owned both since launch and unless someone points out the graphics difference between the both, you will not notice. But loading times with multi platform games on either consoles are noticeable, same for online play.
Ive played COD:MW2 and Street Fighter 4 on both systems. Xbox live...you get what you pay for, good online gaming service. PSN playing online, not as good but its free so I dont expect it to be up there with Xbox live.

I missed his ninja edit. All he had originally posted in reply to me was.

"Yes you have ;)"

The wonders never fail to amaze. Im slightly puzzled now though does this mean that because COD MW:2 looks pretty much identical on PS3 & 360 that it is not an HD game or that the "SD" version on the 360 is so good and the PS3 "HD" version is pants?

I've gone back and played a few games on the 360 that I played on the PS3 and there's a little difference in some cases and next to none in others. COD:WaW, this felt much the same on the 360 and the PS3 although the PS3 version felt like veteran was much harder. Burnout Paradise, have to say the 360 version looks slightly better, but what it makes up in the graphical department it lacks in others. The online system on the PS3 is much better and less buggy. Dead Space was exactly the same on both platforms, but the 360 version had a lot more bugs (namely falling through the floor killing you).

The 2 that stick out for me so far have to be GTA4 and Midnight Club LA. Both of these looked and played like crap on the PS3, although I did stick with MC:LA till the end. I have a couple of screenies from both versions showing how vast the quality difference is really. The first one was taken whilst the car was moving so there is some motion blur, but not enough to cause a significant impact.

I'm not trying to imply the 360 is better just because of a couple of games, just that there indeed is a difference in some games.

In my opinion Midnight Club isn't a great looking game anyway, I thought the gameplay would make up for it too but was sadly disappointed.

That's a pretty shocking difference!

+1 to this. As for that GTA4 screenshot, I'm confused because I've never seen the graphics looking that bad  Obviously you have it in a screenshot so it's hard to argue. but It's got me pondering as to the reason. I've been playing it on both consoles on and off since release and i've never seen graphics like that, they resemble San andreas!

They are captures you've done yourself yes senture?

It's Midnight Club as far as I know. Otherwise that doesn't look like a console version of GTA4 because as far as I know it doesn't have licensed vehicles and the jeep in the image says "Land Rover" on the front. So it's either Midnight Club or it's a PC mod.

Paying for XBLive is a total moot point, its £25 for a year.

£2 a month.

That's not a moot point at all, £25 per year for the lifetime of console, so it's cost what...at least £125 to date (And only if you avoid the £40 proper cost), add on the adaptor as well and your looking at £250 on top of the XBOX so far just to be online
