Porsche has revealed a new top-of-the-range 911 for customers who it says will only settle for the very best in terms of power, performance and driving dynamics: the 911 Turbo S.
At the heart of the model is the latest six-cylinder boxer with twin variable turbine turbos, but boosted by 30bhp to a total of 530bhp. Maximum torque goes up to 516 lb-ft, and the new top model comes as standard with all the bells and whistles available only as options on the regular 911 Turbo.

So the Turbo S comes with a seven-speed PDK gearbox and Porsche Traction Management (PTM) all-wheel drive. Other features from the Turbo include Dynamic Engine Mounts and Porsche Torque Vectoring (PTV) including a mechanical differential lock on the rear axle.

Surely anyone spending £110k on a supercar is by default going to spend the extra £20-30 on one of these bad boys?

Would it not have made more sense to make the standard 911 Turbo this car and do without an S version.

the best turbo S imo

Because now everyone with a standard 911 Turbo will be selling/trading for one of these. Porche sell 2 cars instead of one, easy profit. It's not like they've had to spend money restyling it :p

Matt wins. Although apparently it's not all that great to drive. Still WANT though :p

Although i'd settle for a 993 4S :o

Of course this wont make sense to just make it the 911 Turbo and its completely daft to suggest all buyers will opt for this.

Its like saying why have a BMW 325i because everyone will just buy the 330i. Nonsensical.

Few people will opt for this over the standard car.

years and years back performance car road tested one. first of all 0-60 in 3.5s. it matched a diablo SV in acceleration until 150mph, but, best of all... there was a shot of the turbo S accelerating from a tight right hander with the INSIDE FRONT WHEEL an inch in the air, trying to wheelie

Another opportunity for Porsche to make money with a car aimed at those who MUST go to 11 and stay there, no matter what. I heard the other week from a good source, though I can't validate it, that the cost to manufacture a Boxster S is only £4K less than that of a 911 Turbo, so £21K extra seems very over the top for what in reality are very small tweaks. Chap I know has just taken delivery of a brand spanking 911 Turbo Cab with all the bits on, looks epic too but I know he felt somewhat peeved when Porsche announced the S model a couple of weeks before his arrived. Mind you, he does have a GT3 RS and Cup car, so not that much of an issue. How the other half live aye!
