Hi Guys

I am currently a BT Broadband option 3 customer and paying £19.99 per month this packagegives me a 8meg service and unlimited downloads. though this statement is not true as I received an e-mail saying they were now capping my broadband during peek periods 9am to 6pm. When I phoned them about this they said I had downloaded 100G in Dec and also Jan and this was above there unlimited rule. They have removed the cap as I went nuts with the guy...

So I am starting to look for another ISP

I have had a call from TalkTalk offering me their TalkTalk Pro package this is a 8meg service though they tell me as a pro customer I would get priority broadband traffic... Cost including line rental and free call package £26.99

Do we have any feedback

thanks for taking the time to reply

I agree there, TalkTalk aren't known to be good.

But I'm with BT, and they're very good for me, just the phones all Indian, but the service is good :)

The main problems with talktalk are you need to use their forums (really good) to get anything done, phoning them is just a waste of time.

And the big one. They can't seem to keep up with upgrading their exchanges.
When I started with them I got great speed 24/7, then at prime times it started to crawl.
Exchange has capacity increased, great back to good speeds all the time.
This just seems to cycle and I have crap primetime speeds for months until they increase capacity again.

It takes them at least 3 months from crap speeds to doing anything. I'm talking 4pm-midnight at sometimes <1meg. While offpeak I'm getting about 14meg.

This seems fairly common looking at their support forum.

BT don't offer as fast speeds at my exchange but people I know that have it get pretty much the same speed all the time.

I left TT in december after almost 6 months of problems and now back with BT, sign up with them at your peril.

These forums are getting just as bad, they still lie to you, sometimes have to wait days for a response as I found out.
I know most of these forums are for most of the time problem solving and not many posts for positive things but check it and TT out for yourself at talktalkmembers.com and start at customer service and billing, it makes for some quite shocking reading how this company treats its customers, you will particually like the thread about TT getting 3 debt collection agencies on someone.
Otelo are currently helping me with a dispute I have with them.

There is an old saying....you get what you pay for.
My advice, stay well clear.

I wouldn't go back to BT if they paid me. Plus they are pretty much single-handedly responsible for the backwards-ass state of our infrastructure, which compared to almost all other euro countries is years behind. Profit, profit, profit, and monopoly, and always dragging their heals when it comes to re-investing that money back into services.

They also charge way more than is reasonable for the services they provide. £20 for 8meg? That's insanely expensive. And their HomeHubs are universally derided for being crap.

I'd go with TT over BT any day of the week. However, if you want to pay a bit more, there are plenty of re-sellers over all the networks (BT, Opal, Easynet, etc), who have reputations BT could only dream of.

I am on BT option 3 and have been with other ISP's namely Tiscali. I can say that BT has a far better connection with no limiting for heavy downloads like Tiscali did. I am not sure but will talk talk unlimited really be unlimited like Tiscali stated? I think not!

I would suggest sticking with BT. I recently got a cold call from TT and they were very pushy. I said send the info in the post, he said ok if we don't hear back within 14 days we will assume that you want our service and we will proceed to contact BT and get you changed over!!! I think not m8.....bye!!!

Listen thanks for all the replies TalkTalk are due to call me back tonight though am not convinced by there sales piych and entering into a 18 month contract scares me if the service is poor

a) Bt limit EVERYTHING. big and small downloads. P2P and HTTP.
b) everything is better than tiscali. thats why they don't exist anymore.
c) iirc Tiscali is now owned by talktalk?
d) they are all much of a muchness. I'd just go with whatever is cheapest / easier.

The guy from TT been on the phone I told him I was out of contract and was not sure if I should join TT though he said they would be using the same line as I have with BT and the ecuipment would remail the same and paying for TalkTalk Pro would ensure I had a rock solid connection and Unlimited DL though still unsure

I'm on TalkTalk Essentials after two years on Be* and while the technical support is nowhere near as good as Be* was, it's not as shocking as BT. The forums are the only way to get something done - if you provide them with the information required they will get the problem fixed eventually.

I haven't found any cases of the OCE's telling lies on the members forums, only people complaining about the phone technical support or sales people telling lies. The OCE's sorted out my free "Mega Download Boost" pack which I told I would get free when I signed up only to be charged £4 p/m for it.

The service isn't bad at all if your exchange isn't congested (and has a Gigabit backhaul) - you can check the status of your exchange here: http://www.talktalkmembers.com/content/view/109/149/

tl;dr: TalkTalk are not the best but you can't go wrong for the price and BT are far worse IMHO.
