Tachymeters on watches

Does anyone ever use them? I have seen them loads and only just looked up about them ( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tachymeter_scale )

Now I'm struggling to think when I might actually use that function and wonder if anybody else has good use for it?

as far as i can work out, they're almost always just used as decoration on what would otherwise be a rather dull bezel.

still, if ever you needed to work out the speed of something at least you'd be able to.

make sure you fill your tacho in before setting off on your journey or its a big fine

Some say it's useful for working your speed over a given distance but it doesn’t stop you from getting speeding tickets. The Breitling slide rule bezel is far more useful.

My watch has got a slide rule which you can use to work out multiplication, division and square roots and also convert miles to knots and kilometres. More useful then the tachymeter imo.

i just traded my only tachy watch but never once used it

The only use for it I've found is to calibrate the speedometer on my car. Yay fun. You have to be a passenger to do it, too. I suppose you could figure out how fast cars or horses are going around a track, as long as you know the exact distance of the track.
