I'd probably be looking very closely at the Jaguar XKR, the late model old Shape though, you'ed have a bit of change from £25k and a 4.2 litre 400bhp Supercharged V8 ...that also happens to have 400lbs/ft of torque. Or a BMW 650i.

Cayman S for me.

For my money too, I haven't driven the SL55 but I can't imagine it being better than the Cayman S, then again, I can't imagine much being better really, it's beautiful to drive...

The great thing is about high end merc's is that in contrast to most of the used car market it is actually very easy to find near mint examples. I'd be confident that even at the bottom end, although higher mileage and older, and perhaps in less desirable spec's, you would find a car that even you would be happy to own

Agreed with you on that, nearly all high end Merc owners take great care of their cars with regards to servicing, maintenance etc.
