First impressions of the F10 BMW 5 Series

This weeks Autocar has a head to head between the 530d and the E350 CDI.

The E350 CDI wins. Just.

4.4 Turbo. Pointless IMHO, the 535i will be the pick of the range. All the performance you need in a car of this type unless you want an M5.

0-60 in 5.6 seconds and 306bhp is enough for an executive saloon, why suffer 20mpg instead of 30mpg for the 550i?

He seemed to think it had a more luxurious interior which I found confusing as the one thing I don't like about the new E Class is... the interior. It reminds me of a Vauxhall Astra and that cannot be a good thing?

The sooner they release this car the better. Then I will be more likely to be able to afford a '07 E60 facelift.

Previous shape E class interior was lovely, new shape is horrible, no idea what Merc were thinking when they drew that one up.

I totally agree, really liked the interior of the previous E Class.

That looks quite dated now though i think. The satnav far down and the curves do it i think.

Of course its dated its a discontinued model. Never really understand comments like that.

the wheel makes it quite dated now i thin too.

I think its because its got no straight lines and lots of roundy curvy bits, bit like 90s exterior styling where there was never a straight edge to be found.

Other parts dont look as dated. The newer interior definately looks more modern, think i prefer it.

Thing is, i was never drawn to the BMW e90 interiors. They were modern, but i dunno i just didnt seem to like them. Newer doesnt always mean better.

Then over time, they've grown on me. I almost think the design was before its time.

I think this looks stunning

Really find myself drooling over an E90 M3 now, wheras previously i was a bit "meh"
