First impressions of the F10 BMW 5 Series

yeah your comment about everybody choosing black leather and silver dash is so true.

why are people so damn boring, and it appears nobody specs extended leather either. Its only another £700. on a £50,000 car thats nothing.

4.4 Turbo. Pointless IMHO, the 535i will be the pick of the range. All the performance you need in a car of this type unless you want an M5.

0-60 in 5.6 seconds and 306bhp is enough for an executive saloon, why suffer 20mpg instead of 30mpg for the 550i?

True, very true if you only apply logic, but I am a lover of V8s, I love the noise they make ...you just can't quite get it with a l6 ...as nice as they can sound mind.

I dunno, but I feel your pain, I would have ideally liked a more interesting colour combo than silver/black too like I aegean blue and cream leather or something. But it wasn't there ...well not unless I wanted purple with a purple and white interior ...I think not, so silver and black it is!

Yay all black interior. Why do people do it?

at least its the CF trim instead of the boring silver.

Best combo would be Extended Fox Leather + Carbon Fibre trim. like this one

BMW performance steering wheel too. Lush.

Resale value probably plays a big part.
That, and people are boring.
Silver with black leather is quite possibly the most boring colour combination possible. (This isn't a dig)
But on that note, were you looking for a particular colour or did you just take the first that was impeccable?
But now you, Olly and Moeks have Silver E39s with black leather..

Well I did actually take the first really good one I looked at yea, god knows how long I could have been looking for otherwise, however, much like when I bought the ST220, I fully expect a beautiful 2003 540I Sport in black with cream leather and nav to pop up for sale at an acceptable price very soon. I swore then and I will swear a 'lot' now if that does happen, but such is life. I got the car I wanted in a colour combo I can live with just fine, it looks nice ...just really not at all interesting as you say. It isn't perfect by any means, but it's as close as I could get at the moment.

You just cant have it all when buying second hand

You'd want a 1 owner car, who has cherished and loved it dearly all its life, but to then one of those, with exactly the right options and colour combos is nigh on impossible.

There are 9 black interior models for every 1 sand beige interior model. I was already being ridiculously fussy by insisting on a manual gearbox, 1 owner from new, etc etc. I'd never have found a car had I insisted on the colour combination of my dreams.

It isnt as bad as black dash top with grey leather though, that looks horrible and it wears terribly as well.

I wouldn't know about the wear, but we had that with our biarritz(?) blue E39. I thought it looked quite smart.

I'll see if i can push Beige with black dash for the F10 in the autumn ;)
It's a shame the exterior colours are shockingly dull, and Individual is a waste of money.

There is also a TFT screen as part of the instrument cluster - check control is now an actual photograph of an F10. The font is perfectly smoothed a-la Cleartype in Windows.

It's gorgeous.

I see that they have now added two extra dials to the instrument cluster which is a nice touch.

I presume that you are going to have a test drive?

I think the steering wheel is pretty nice for what is presumably an SE model?
Edit: A bit Audi like, with the scroll wheels.

Nice write up Fox - Saves me asking my Dad his thoughts, he had a similar evening at his local dealership recently.

He liked it - the F10 - very much too, I'll still be surprised if he actually ditched his e39 just yet though....

How does that digital gear leaver work? :)
And on a side note, along with me seriously liking the new M3, the 5 series is very lush too
