The Official Motorola Milestone Thread

I was having massive probs with my phone earlier today due to something I did (still figuring out what) so updated to 2.0.1 tonight. Still a bit rocky so I did a factory reset, installed 21 apps, and now it is as sweet as a nut... really quick and responsive. Well chuffed. :D

The one thing i hate about Android atm was the same on my hero was the lack of install on sd card without messing about, i hardly got any apps on and only got like just over 100meg left.

Can you do apps2sd on the Milestone atm ?

Apps2SD is available but needs root access

Is there any way of making the browser less lagging when moving around, just isn't smooth have even tried dolphin browser, am rather surprised as I expected a much smoother browsing experience than my Hero offered.

I find the browser is quite smooth once the page has finished loading. If you try and scroll before it finishes then its quite jumpy.

Anyone finding the battery life quite poor after the update? Mine seems to be discharging much faster than before.

Have to admit to being a tad disappointed with this phone even with the new update its still laggy around the home screen doesn't switch smooth, the web browser is laggy i wouldn't even put it above the Hero.

The web browser in general is faster just laggy moving around the screen, was i expecting to much ? i mean even the 2g iphone leaves it for dead still in this department imo.

Edit:

Been testing both phones and every web page i been on is smoother on the Hero than on this phone now something isn't right there for sure, for example went on the mobileburn.com and its super smooth scrolling on the hero but laggy as hell on the Milestone this is with a full factory reset also.

Edit
Looking around it does appear users are having this issue since the update, lots of people on there complaining might just send this back and wait for the Nexus.

I updated to 2.0.1. yesterday after a couple of months of 2.0 and fiddling around and immediately did a factory reset. After this I isntalled the Android 2.1 launcher and all the other 2.1 goodies (as well as my other main apps) and it is smooth as a babies bum... the launcher, homescreens etc are all silky smooth and it really is a different phone.

The browser is still a bit juddery sometimes, but i'm certainly not noticing anything worse than before.

People saying they'll send it back for a Nexus makes me laugh... the Nexus has problems of its' own that are well documented, and the lack of hardware keyboard, and lack of gorilla-glass screen that can't be read in direct sunlight (typical of AMOLED) means that they really are gaining nothing other than cutting off their nose to spite their face.

My Milestone is now rocking my world. :D

^ I won't send it back for the Nexus lol just annoyed at the time plus this was a £25 contract with 300mins/texts and unlmited internet and i can't see me getting a Nexus that low when its out, now its been put down to anti-aliasing not disabling when scrolling it something they can fix for sure it only really occurs on picture intense sites like IMDB, bbc sport is bad also and even the overclockers main site is the same for me.

Ahhhhhh of course... when I zoom close (as in, close) into a site it really lags too and there is no real reason for it to... so it must as you say indeed be AA, it makes perfect sense. :)

I will keep this and sell my Hero on, things will get more interesting when it can be routed properly to install custom roms, i know there are roms out on the droid that overclock cpu and giving results from 800mhz(seems to be the sweet spot) all the way upto 1.2ghz.

Im currently on the lookout for one of these as ive just reduced my contact to a rolling one. Can anyone point me towards to best deal on this atm? around £30pm.

I went for the T-Mobile deal £25 a month with 300texts/minutes and unlimited internet on 18 months contract from the site below, the phone was £9.99 and unbranded there are plenty of deals about but this site i got mine from seems to have some good ones, just select the internet plans instead of the standard ones in the list.

I read that too, an 800mhz CPU would be verrrryyyy nice, especially for when Flash 10.1 comes. :)

hey there, are you still having problems with the battery life?
if so, do you have more than about 500MB of music/media on the SD card?

instal the "Astro" file manager and then use it to look at the list of running services (menu --> tools --> process manager) and look for a process d.process.media. if you're having the same problem as me then it'll have a continuous and very high CPU usage.

i'm having this same problem, as is this person in america:
