Street Fighter (SFIV, SSFIV, HDR)

I'll add you for a few games.

Edit: Not bad, shame about the lag. You rely a lot on "lag tactics" though, and I really suggest using DP's less.

what are these "lag tactics" you talk about?

You'll see when you play decent people in person.

Basically online is a very different game to offline play (unless you purely play the zoning game). It's not necessarily worse as a game in its own right, but being good online means nothing offline as you get used to tricks like tick throws, lp dp spam and focus abuse that doesn't work effectively offline where reactions are a lot better. You also avoid doing 1-2 frame link combos online as they aren't really viable, such as Ryu's cmp cmp chk BnB combo which adds a huge amount to his game.

Basically if you want to get into offline competition (which it sounds like you do) then you want to try wean yourself off those tactics.

Very constructive K :)
btw - what are tick throws?
Also you said 1-2 frame link combos (e.g. Guiles LP>MP) arent as viable. Do you mean not easy to pull off? Or not effective? What exactly?

Tick throws are where you throw people on the first frame after they recover from hitstun (rather than the predictable walk up throws you seemed to favour), using setups like:

jhk throw
jhk clp throw
clp throw
etc.

1-2 frame links suffer from even relatively small lag spikes (which happen all the time, if you use something liek netgraph in counter strike on the PC you can see it clearly) which makes them inconsistent compared to offline play, and this encourages players to do less damaging "easy" combo's online due to "dp mashers" breaking the harder combos.

Hope that helps.

Edit: This manchester event is not a proper tournament by the way, it's a lot of people playing casuals, and then a casual tournament at the end. It's basically a get together for SFIV fans.

Yep cheers.
To be honest Im not a fan of tick throws, partially because everytime I try to do it, I seem to miss the throw
Is there a trick to it? I.e. after you jump in say and then press LK/LP for the throw, should it automatically connect or do you need to be pushing forward a little bit and the LK/LP buttons? Or is there any element of karathrowing involved?

(rather than the predictable walk up throws you seemed to favour

Not that predictable since even you fell for it sometimes :D (only kidding ;))

i like tick throws, it's a very effective tool against defensive players.

Add me on mate,

mpower07

Regarding the tourny, about 60+ ppl have now signed up and there is still interest from more ppl, and there are still 2 weeks to go! It looks like it might be massive! :D

I thought you didn't know what they were?

Your 2 frame links should be near 100% execution (like Balrogs clp clp lp chk) offline.

I have no problems doing them on SFIV offline or on HDR online so I'm pretty sure it's not my execution.

Finish work @ 10pm will add you when i get in. Is there any links with more info on how to sign up etc...?

Sure thing mate, which char do you use?

Email me at adnan_manchester (at) hotmail (dot) com

I will reply with a link to the forums where you can sign up, or if you are not a member on there I will put your name down for you. :) You can actually just turn up on the day and sign up so it should be ok. I take it you are from Manchester?

It was Cavallino that wasn't sure what tick throws were, i've always used them in my gameplay.

My execution on combos is no where near 100% even offline. Im no pro by far. Just play for the <3 of it hehe :D
