google chrome your thoughts

Switched to it a couple of months back, much better now with the extensions. I find it much faster than IE and FF, although it does seem to have a few issues with eBay causing it to stall during page load.

I use both but Firefox is still far better.

Pros of Firefox 3.6 (vs Chrome) 4
- It's more user controlled
- Currently has more useful extensions (fireftp, better adblock plus etc)
- Regardless of what people say it doesn't "eat" RAM, I load my browser in the morning and leave it open the whole day, sometimes go days without closing it (PC is never turned off) and it still uses 100-200MB of RAM.
- Session saving is great
- Firefox environment backup extension (FEBE) is even greater
- Bookmarks manager a lot more useful, supports separators which Chrome doesn't
- Mozilla Weave is better implemented than Google Sync which only syncs bookmarks
- Regardless of the fact that FF rendering speed is a bit slower than Chrome, you can actually work faster in Firefox if you take some time to look at just how far you can tailor Firefox to your needs, something not many people do and dismiss it moments later because it uses a small amount of memory or crashed loading a page even though it session restored perfectly after reloading
- It's not bloated at all, has the same base components as Chrome and Opera is more bloated than any existing popular browser.

Cons of Firefox 3.6 (vs Chrome)
- Javascript performance slightly slower than Chrome 4 (597.2ms vs 258.2ms Sunspider benchmark)
- Requires the user to put some effort into getting it customised and running tailored to their needs, once done though no other browser will feel as useful
- Due to the above, most people CBA

I'm quite confident unless Google get more extensions on Chrome's gallery then by the time it is as vast as firefox version 4 of Firefox will be out which will be more awesome.

Been using Chrome since the moment it hit the net, not had one problem with it, no spyware/viruses at all.

It is even better now there are extensions, adblock e.t.c

I just love the whole clean look of it & the speed also :)

This.

I have been using Chrome for around a year now. Its the first application to get installed onto my machine after a reload. :)

i've been using chrome for a well over a year and about 9months on Linux.
After spending some time with it i just dont get on with the other browsers anymore.
i was desperate for it to hit Linux (my main OS) when i had it on the windows computer and the agonising wait while it was worked on was worth it. :)

This.

I love it's simplicity and minimalism. It's fast, lightweight and just.....works. What more could you want out of a browser? :)

I for one would like a simple drop down arrow like IE and Firefox have for selecting a previous page I have viewed. In Chrome I found I had to open history and find the page in there instead of simply just clicking the address bar to see a list of previous addresses and just selecting one. Here is a post with many other people wanting something as simple as that:

Chrome also won't automatically clear everything down on exit like Firefox does as far as I could see. Firefox is great in that the GF can go on the computer afterwards and you don't have a panic attack ;):D

On a serious note though, I did find chrome clean and quick but without the simple drop down box feature from the address bar that every other browser has it just annoyed me too much. If anyone knows howto add that in then let me know! Or if there is a way to automatically clear everything on exit like Firefox does too.

Is there a way of getting the black theme for this place using chrome? I use FF and have the black theme for ocuk, but didn't know it was possible to do the same with Chrome?

Over 60% of Stylish scripts will work on Chrome out of the box. Just visit http://userstyles.org/styles/10304 from Chrome and install.

The only downside is there doesn't seem to be any way to edit installed scripts like you can in Firefox via Stylish so you're stuck with whatever the script author puts in so in the ocuk dark theme the max image width where larger images get sized down for example.

In version 5.0.317.2 they have added an option to clear all data when the browser is closed down it is under the spanner > options > under the bonnet > content settings > tick clear cookies & content on exit.

Not sure about the drop down address bar though, never used it personally. But if you want to access a page in the tab your using you can just click & hold down on the back button to get pages you have visited in that tab.

Where did you get that version from. The version i have, and just updated, is 4.0.249.89 unknown(38071)

Just use incognito mode. Spanner icon > new incognito window. Nothing in that new window will be saved or added to the history.
