First model related rant!

There was nothing wrong with the processing. She was moaning because a label hadn't been cloned out from about 5 of the 40 or so images she got.

What do you expect ? I have no experience of this however some of my friends have been models (no longer friends) and i find that most of them think they are gods gift; that everyone should drop everything to acommodate them and that thankyous are one-way gifts......... where people give them thanks.

Uh, sorry, but from a designer freelancer pov it doesnt matter if its paid work or not, you should always do the work to the best of your efforts if a deadline is promised, it doesnt matter HOW much you have to do, you still have to do it if thats whats you both promised on. You had two weeks to do it but you got annoyed that she was asking for them when you havent done all of them, thats your fault not her for asking that she wants them.

Now, Ive dealt with people (clients) who've asked for more stuff then its worth my time, especially when theyre getting work done for FREE, YET they complain this and that when theyre actually using my work to promote themselves, because we're "friends", but when it comes to paid work, its apparently too much to pay for.

One scenario I had with a client was, they needed some promotional vouchers done for their club for last Christmas, they were selling these vouchers for £30, (yes, you read that right!) but yet asked me to design them for free... I then ask them that it would cost them so and so much, but then she comes back with "But its only one piece of paper, its not that hard and it wont take that long to do, and we're not going to get any profit out of it..." I laughed when she said that, surely anyone with some common sense would make more than one copy to sell at this club event at £30 a piece  I said its not one piece of paper, its Time x Design x Experience = Work, so I said I wont do them because she basically thinks that the work is just a "piece of paper". I didnt go to uni to get a degree in graphic design to do free work... She then asked me if she could have the "design files" so she could do them herself which I didnt even reply back to her. Seriously, there are some uneducated and ignorant people/clients out there, but theres also uneducated and ignorant designers/photographers too.

If you read the thread properly no deadline was set, they agreed that the pictures would be processed and handed over as and when he had the chance.

Even so she would be expecting completeled work within some deadline.
I wouldnt make anyone wait 2 weeks but thats my worktime period. A wedding normally takes a month+ time and thats a task!.

When you ask for something as a favour then you shouldn't expect anything especially when it's made clear to them from the get go that he had a lot on and she would fit around his schedule, not the other way round. Despite that, Phate says he had half of it done already so it's not like he was just sitting around. Do you really think it's reasonable for her to give him zero warning but go ahead and book shoots and then only telling him the day before?

At the very least she should have told she was booking shoots so he had some more warning that they were urgent. It's the usual case of people who have no idea about what's involved in the work thinking it's just clicking a couple of buttons and that it can be done in 5 minutes.

When youre working with people and especially people that doesnt know whats going on or how much work it takes, you should always expect the worst from them.

Plus if he had a lot going on maybe he shouldnt have taken the job, he should have prioritized it better instead of handling more than he could. Time management, learn it.

This isn't a time management issue so calm yourself down, it's a lack of communication from the 'client' issue. No offence mate but taking the moral high ground on a matter that you have obviously misread is a bit silly.

There was no deadline set so how could he possibly have taken on too much, it was agreed with the client beforehand that it would be done when it could, it was HER that ignored all this and went out to book shoots without letting him know until the day before, nobody should expect 40 professional shots to be turned around for free in one unless they are a moron.

At the end of the day paid work takes priority over free work. He had too much paid work to do to mess around with some photos for free.

Wooah cool your jets man im not taking sides.

I dont believe its reasonable for her to say "tomorrow I need them" blah because I have that myself.

I'm only saying for the sake of getting future work and in photography its all about word of mouth. Keep the peace, do the work requested and move on.

I cant remember who said it but in this thread someone mentioned about models thinking they are the be all and end all to the equasion in their attitude and its absolutely true.

Always make sure you make clear to the client, whoever they may be, what they can expect in terms of timescales. Make sure it's written down on the model release they sign, if possible.
That way there can be no surprises and at least if there are, you've got a written document to back you up.

All Im saying is, like Fstop said, if you wish you get future work from clients that knows how things work between client and photographer from their experience with you and not some wannabe model throwing a tantrum, no matter if its PAID or FREE work you should work at the same standard, but not necessarily offering the same "options" those are two different things. If you think just because its FREE work and you think its okay to slack a bit and push them aside (depending on how strenuous his other projects were) then youre not really someone that I would want to work with if I was a model since you treat FREE work like a chore.

As its said, word of mouth is how you get the jobs if youre "freelancing" and from their experience with you and the work you create.

Im not saying that hes fully wrong, Im just suggesting that he should take this as a experience, since hes just starting out from what Ive gathered from his other threads.
