Hi guys!

I'm looking to purchase a 56 reg (new shape) 1.8 Civic ES auto. It has done 50K miles and is in good overall condition (full service history etc). I am however not sold on the red colour primarily because I'm concerned that it will fade over time..is there any truth to that or is it just a rumour? Apparently red and black are the most popular colours in the sporty versions.

Secondly how much do you think I should pay for it? Personally, after having a look at parkers valuations (not sure if they are reliable) I was thinking around the £7K mark.

Thanks!

I haven't seen a faded Milano red EP3 ever, or a DC2 for that matter.

Might just be me though.

Seen plenty of faded EG's though :p

Ive seen Milano Red fade on DC2s. Seems to happen to all types of cars if they are uncared for.

Not a single bit of paint fade on my 8 year old milano red CTR, but yes 7k for an 1.6 es auto, scary...would be looking for something a little bit more exciting? :p

Milano red is meant to be a PITA to match due to fading. There are a few posts on CTRO that confirm this, and I know a bodyshop that has had great difficulty matching it in the past.

Its a 1.8 and thats what the prices are at the moment..most of them are well over £8.5K on autotrader, ebay etc and I'm talking private... retail/dealerships are an additional £500 - £1000

Cared for red will be ok, but the auto on that model was/is mighty unpopular from my days on civinfo.

If i recall correctly they had a ECU reflash that even changed their tax band/the original launch model was lower C02.

As for price, I would not have a clue!

Is this civic your looking at the new fn2,fn3 shape as currently on sale? If so, the paint supplier used was changed to avoid the fading reported by a few owners of the previous model(ep3 shape). Never seen a new shape faded civic, and untill recently I valeted cars at honda, avonmouth, for 2.5years, both used and new.

The FN2/3 are import only and about £15k+ aren't they?

FD2 is import only, as is the EK9 (Tims shape). FN2 is the UK model spaceship Type-R.

I think you can do better for the money but if you must, a modern red car shouldn't really fade. It depends if you intend to keep it for 10 years or 2 years I suppose as time can only tell really.
