Apparently for those in the trade, the above deal is possible. You cant get it as a general lease wanting punter. fortunately my uncle is in the trade and can do this for me.

Basically, you get say a Vaxhaul Corsa on a lease deal at £140 a month for two years. Total spend of £3360. Then at the end of that term, you can buy the car for its 'auction value' - which, is tradidtiaonlly 40 - 50% less its list price. So say, £6k. Therefore, total pay is around £9k for a car worth 11k which you can sell immediately for about £7 - 8k. So you loose just 2k in total over two years for a car which you dont pay any tax on because its a lease vehicle AND its under a full Vaxhaul warranty for the duration.

So the above may be a bit convoluted but true.

Im in a situation where my beloved yet totally crap pug 405 1.9DT is dieing (stuttering during acceleration due to water in the fuel system) and will eventually pop and i need to get a new car before it does so. Its certainly not worth chucking casj at it.

Only prob with the above lease deal is not getting the scrappage scheme deal for the pug.

Has anybody heard of the above or have any advice please? im in muddy water here and could use some clarity please.

thanks as always

A few flaws in your plan:

a) You DO pay VAT on a lease vehicle if its made available for personal use and its a company vehicle, though at a reduced rate. You will also pay company car.
b) A 2 year old Corsa is not worth £8000.
c) This scheme is designed to provide bodyshops with courtesy cars.

ah ok i see - i get your points there

So you cant afford anything better than an old 405 but you can afford a brand new car?

All you are doing here is hiring a really crap car

What would your budget be for a new car?
Have a look on the PH Sheds section.
There is quite a large choice for under £500.

the 405 was off my grandad because he could not drive anymore - hence he gave it to me and i was VERY grateful.

I CAN afford alease vahicle so - yes, i can afford a 'new' car as it were. Imconfused as to why you are confused matey?

What you want is a loan. Then a 3-4k Fiesta 1.25. Very cheap reliable motoring. Top end running costs (top tyres, bang on services at main dealer) will be less that £250 pcm.

My bad :D
There's lots of reliable (pug/ford/etc) stuff about for the 400-1k mark although I can appreciate paying a small chunk of disposable income (for an eternity) might seem like the better option right now.

sorry whats with the arrogant remarks regarding my budget - christ people who drive dumbed down Volksvagen's should perhaps be more supportive.

Im a bloke living within my means - if you cant offer pleasant advice then please dont post. Oh and i know a considerable amount about cars and am not a young idiot. I know what im buying, its relevant reviews and its level of ****eness. I need not enlightening in that area.

I also gave the Vaxhaul Corsa as an example. NOT a firm decision.

ta.

Yeh i like the new fiestas although i know only the 1.6 is worth having and they are not cheap - oh wait, you mean the old ones sorry

You amy well know about cars, but finance is different ball game. Leasing is not the cheapest alternative.

yes i know mate but i just dont ahve the deposit for something new, or the cash for something better.

I would buy second hand but ive been hrough the following

Fiat uno turbo
Toyota Strlet 1.3 turbo
Renault Clio 1.8 Valver
renault Clio Williams
Ford Focus diesel
Peugot 205 GTI
